Thank You, Tulsa!
March 2023
Thank you to everyone who supported the 11th Annual Heart of Henry 2023! Congratulations to this year’s recipients:

  • Volunteer of the Year, Kristi Krajicek
  • Community Awareness Award, Indian Healthcare Resource Center of Tulsa
  • The Heart of Henry 2023 recipient, Lynn Schusterman

Many thanks to TDC Board member and 2023 Heart of Henry Chair, Andrew Wolov. What a fabulous event!

Heart of Henry was inspired by a personal friend of Mr. Henry and a long-time supporter of the Tulsa Day Center, David Hentschel. The idea was to honor the spirit of philanthropy displayed by Mr. Henry Zarrow and his wife, Anne. Many thanks to David for his inspiration and continued support.

As I mentioned the night of the event, I would encourage you to listen to “Voices of Oklahoma” sponsored by the Oklahoma Historical Society (click here to listen), an interview with Mr. Henry by John Erling, a long-time radio host. At the conclusion of the interview, John Erling says “You have just heard Henry Zarrow tell his story of a young boy born with a mind for business that grew into a 'giving heart'.”

This year concludes the “Heart of Henry” Event as we know it.   We are excited and planning a new event that will benefit the Tulsa Day Center which will be held in February 2024! Rest assured, we will always honor Anne and Henry Zarrow for their giving hearts.

The Blue Team Initiative: Update
Kellie Wilson, LCSW, Clinical Outreach and Engagement Coordinator helps Annie get experience in researching and analyzing the origins, impact, and ongoing issues of homelessness in Tulsa.
In the News: Fox 23 News Story
Meet Annie, our intern from ORU who is assisting with anosognosia with our new Blue Team Initiative. When her professor/mentor, Mike Brose, introduced her to the Blue Team Initiative and mentioned there was a practicum opportunity, she immediately applied for the position.

Partnerships are being developed with Laureate Brain Research Center, Tulsa Fire Department, Tulsa Center for Behavioral Health, William K. Warren Foundation, Maxine and Jack Zarrow Foundation, and our very own amazing Medical Clinic.

As this program launches, they will be even more equipped to help those with mental illness who may not recognize they have one.

More updates to come, so stay tuned!
Thank You Dr. Weiss for
Over 25 Years of Volunteering
Congrats on Retiring!
Dr. Weiss, a native of Philadelphia, received his undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University and his medical degree from Temple University in Philadelphia. He then completed his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Chicago Hospital. Following his residency, Dr. Weiss was awarded the prestigious Heed Fellowship in Glaucoma at Rush Medical College in Chicago.

For over 25 years, Dr. Weiss has helped the Clinic and our clients with eye care. Before COVID, he would come into the Clinic often to see clients. Afterward, our Clinic was able to refer patients to his clinic for eye care.

We are extremely grateful for his dedication and support and wish him the best in his retirement.
