Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. Austin Community Health Hub

A collaboration between Stone Community Development Corporation (Stone CDC), Lurie Children’s and the Austin community

We are thrilled to announce our partnership with Stone CDC in developing the Austin Community Health Hub! Our shared vision is to create a welcoming, healing space where Austin youth and families can receive pediatric physical and behavioral healthcare services and take part in community health programs.

We deeply value the thoughts and opinions of the Austin community and want to ensure that the facility reflects their desires and needs. To that end, we co-host meetings with local residents, organizations and healthcare providers to provide updates and seek input.

Learn about our progress

"As a resident of Austin for over 25 years, I am elated by this [...] My hope is that Lurie [Children's] will fine-tune every angle of its goals for Austin, so that we are actually gaining a facility that works to follow the projection of children from their education, to their homes, and even work."

Community Volunteering

The Magoon Institute for Healthy Communities actively curates community volunteer opportunities for our physicians and staff. Our volunteers take part in a variety of events, including working at food pantries, participating in park clean-ups and providing health promotion and health education resources to families. We believe that these events not only benefit the communities we serve, but help our staff develop a deeper understanding of the strengths and needs of those around us.

Urge Congress to strengthen SNAP in the 2023 Farm Bill

The same communities that produce our country's food are experiencing high rates of food insecurity. Tell your lawmakers to support and strengthen SNAP through the 2023 Farm Bill so that rural communities can access the nutritious food they need to thrive! The chance to make significant legislative changes through the Farm Bill only comes once every five years, so please act now!

Help repeal the ban on food stamps for people with drug convictions

For decades, Congress has placed a lifetime ban on people with drug convictions from accessing the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP or food stamps). The Drug Policy Alliance is working with Members of Congress to introduce the RESTORE Act, which fully repeals this federal ban and ends the ability of states to continue to deny SNAP eligibility due to a felony drug conviction.

Advocates are pushing for it be included and passed in the Farm Bill, which is being negotiated right now by Congress. Tell your members of Congress to support the RESTORE Act so that no one goes hungry because of a past drug felony conviction.
