Chile Lindo Kitchen Culture in San Francisco, California | |
Chile and California similarities include spirited September events and festivities! I’ve been so busy that I’m only just finishing the newsletter I started over two months ago. I'm not complaining. I really needed the business, so thank you to all that ordered from Chile Lindo to commemorate the Chilean Independence and to honor Hispanic Heritage Month celebrated from September 15 to October 15.
Chile comes alive in September, with spring’s arrival and the country’s Independence Day commemoration on the 18th. In San Francisco, September is the month of events. It’s my busiest month. Fortunately, I navigated September successfully.
November officially kicks off the holiday season. Please help me keep the strong sales momentum for Chile Lindo. You can make a difference by spreading the word to corporate events and party-goers. Encourage them to spice up their Thanksgiving feast by trying new options like Chile Lindo empanadas and desserts.
Finally, let me tell you about the events that made these last couple of months extra lively (and active). Don’t forget, where I go, empanadas go. Or is it the other way around?

Impress your host or guests this holiday season with a cake they’ll rave about - Chile Lindo’s Milhojas. Milhojas is a type of dessert of French origin that is found nowadays in Spain and Latin America. In Spanish-speaking countries, it is a local name for mille-feuille. This Chilean classic is made with manjar (dulce de leche) and fall harvest walnuts from Winters Fruit Tree farm.
This holiday season I'm introducing a small size at $45 (serves 8+). Large $79 (serves 16+). When sliced thinly, it serves even more guests.
To order call me at 415.368.3328. I can ship one to you via priority mail!

Chile Lindo was a vendor at Flower Piano’s opening night this year.
I've been a fan of Flower Piano from day one! This annual event highlights what makes San Francisco stand out. Mauro Ffortissimo (Argentina) and Dean Mermell (Canada/LA), founders of Sunset Piano, partner with the San Francisco Botanical Garden to transform the park into an open concert hall for ten days. It’s usually held in September, so mark your calendar to make sure you don’t forget about it next year.
I want to thank to Mauro and Dean for inviting Chile Lindo to be a vendor at the Flower Piano Lounge’s Opening Night this year. It took jumping a lot of hoops and the email exchange was insane. But, at the event, the line at the Chile Lindo booth never stopped all evening, and the empanadas were a hit with everyone. Thank you Rebecca Peters for jumping in and saving the day. Thank you Alvin Garcia (aka The Burger Guy, @missionstburgers)--I couldn’t have done it without your expertise of outdoor events.

Haven’t been to Project Artaud? Now is your chance to experience the creative heart of San Francisco, with art, music, and a strong sense of community.
I’m back at it again, wearing my Girl from Empanada hat and selling empanadas at neighborhood events! A big thank you to Brian Goggin and Florencia Aleman for hosting these special events at Project Artaud.
Hope to see you there!

If you’re a regular reader of my newsletter, you are likely aware of the incredible work Sausalito-Viña del Mar Sister Cities has been doing to promote women artists and entrepreneurs from Viña del Mar and Valparaíso.
The Agep-V (Asociación gremial de empresarias y profesionales) women entrepreneurs had a packed itinerary for their time in Sausalito. I encourage you to read about it--especially their beautiful art exhibit--in the "Marin Independent Journal."

It’s always such a pleasure to entertain in my new space called Chile Lindo Kitchen Culture. It's particularly special when the Agep-V delegation from Chile is in town.
One of the many activities organized by the Sister Cities' operation council was a gallery exhibit called “Con las manos en Violeta,” featuring eight Chilean artists from the Sister Cities' program. It opened September 3rd on Bridgeway in Sausalito for a week.
I’m so pleased that the art piece, which gives the exhibit its name “Con las manos en Violeta,” by Rudith Escobar Iturra is now a key piece in Chile Lindo Kitchen Culture. I’d love for you to make it to Chile Lindo to see it.

Barbara Silva (left) and Susan Roe (right)
Thank you Susan Roe and Barbara Silva for creating yet another fabulous networking opportunity. It is always inspiring to be part of a Sausalito-Viña del Mar Sister Cities’ event, and the luncheon at the Sausalito Yacht Club, on Friday, October 11th, was no exception. Barbara Silva of BeSTinnovation and Denisse Goldfarb of The People Future organized a terrific Silicon Valley Innovation Experience Program that brought a group of 25 Chileans, mostly women, to Silicon Valley, specifically Singularity University. Susan Roe, former President of Sausalito Sister Cities, Inc. and founder of The Susan Roe Foundation, Inc. is the visionary behind the construction of the Marine Animal Center of Chile. As you like to say Susan, ¡Sí se puede! Thank you Susan for hosting the event and for inviting me to be part of the program.

Latinas en STEM is a network and community dedicated to empowering and supporting Latin-American women pursuing careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in the United States. Their inaugural symposium, expertly organized by Gabriela Arango (Mexico), Francesca Burgos-Bravo (Chile), Laura Gomez (Colombia), Diana Moreno-Santillán (Mexico), and M. Fernanda Palominos (Chile), was a resounding success.
It’s impressive how this young, motivated group of scientist women managed to secure support and sponsorship from the Chilean Embassy in Washington, DC, as well as the Mexican and Chilean Consulates in San Francisco to create an event that brought together a large group of speakers and participants.
Sponsorship for the group's event also included the Chile-California Council, the College of Letters and Science and the Visiting Scholar and Postdoc Affairs program at UC Berkeley .
Thank you ladies for considering Chile Lindo for your catering menu. Your work is truly admirable.

Chile Conecta: California
Another vital symposium, Chile Conecta: California, was held yesterday, Tuesday, November 12th. Despite a technology-focused theme this time around, their ultimate goal is to extend beyond any single field, and they’re casting a wide net to build a diverse network.
This initiative is a joint effort between the Chile-California Council and the Consul General of Chile in San Francisco, Mr. Jaime Alliende.
In a video message, Mr. Juan Gabriel Valdés, the Chilean Ambassador to the United States, welcomed those at the event and encouraged everyone to join the new network.
Bernardita Muñoz, representing Chile’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, did a fantastic job organizing this event. It was a pleasure being part of it, where I met new Chileans and reconnected with old friends. I want to express my gratitude to everyone who made this possible, including Evan Epstein, Chile-California Council President and Daniela Montiel, Chile-California Council Program Director.
For more information and to join this network designed specifically for Chileans living in the San Francisco Bay Area and California email: chileconecta@chile-california.org

IN THE NEWS!
JAMESSUCKLING INTERVIEWS: ANDREA LEON
JamesSuckling Interviews features innovative and influential winery owners, winemakers and industry notables representing the new generation that is shaping tastes, trends and techniques in the greater wine world.
Andrea Leon, the technical director and winemaker at the Lapostolle and Clos Apalta wineries in the Apalta subregion of Chile’s Colchagua Valley, brings a combination of science and artistry to all aspects of her roles since joining Lapostolle as an assistant winemaker in 2004. Founded in 1994 by Grand Marnier heiress Alexandra Marnier Lapostolle and her husband, Cyril de Bournet, Lapostolle’s intrepid focus on their single high-elevation site, Clos Apalta, and its century-old pre-phylloxera cabernet vines eventually led to wines that put Lapostolle and the Apalta subregion itself on the premium winemaking map.
