Plus we announce the upcoming Island Bowl (this Friday night!), explain how AUSD will report air quality alerts this fall, and remind stakeholders about opportunities to serve on AUSD oversight committees.

Superintendent's Letter
Recent events have made me reflect on the  values that both the Board of Education and district staff uphold and the goals we have set for how we can achieve our mission. AUSD believes in inclusion and teamwork, continuous improvement, and social justice. And we believe schools, like all American institutions, are their best when they serve people through democratic processes. These are values I know we all share and uphold as a team.

September 7: Island Bowl!
The Alameda High School Hornets and the Encinal High School Jets will compete in the 64th annual Island Bowl this Friday, September 7, at EHS's Don Grant Field. The JV game begins at 4 pm, and the varsity game begins at 7 pm.

The annual bowl began in 1955. The official name of the trophy that the winning school gets to showcase each year is the "Alameda Chamber of Commerce Perpetual Trophy."
AUSD's Air Quality Alerts
Fire season began early this year, and we'd like to reassure parents that AUSD will be monitoring local air quality conditions throughout the late summer and early fall. Using guidance issued by the EPA and public health agencies, we will notify school sites immediately if air quality reaches levels at which they need to take actions to reduce students' exposure to unhealthy air. We will also publish alerts here, on our home page, and on both Twitter and Facebook
