We thank those who have already paid their MAFP dues for 2022 and encourage others to join before December 15. If you join before the December 15 deadline, your name will be entered into a drawing for the following prizes:
  • Free registration to a MAFP meeting of your choice
  • MAFP swag bag with sweatshirt, t-shirt, goodies, etc.
  • MAFP Family Medicine Strong watercolor print
  • Gift Cards

On October 13, the American Academy mailed out 2022 dues invoices to members. As dues are due December 31, please take the time to pay your dues as soon as possible. If you didn't receive your invoice in the mail, and you need it e-mailed to you, contact Kristen Kern at MAFP.

Free Behavioral Health Consults Concerning Your Pediatric Patients
Mississippi's CHild Access to Mental Health and Psychiatry service, known as CHAMP, is a consultation and educational program for primary care providers in Mississippi. CHAMP supports primary care providers with questions about mental health care such as diagnostic clarification, medication adjustment, or treatment planning for any patient up to age 21. CHAMP offers this support through a phone consult line that is operated by UMMC child psychiatrists and child psychologists. (See CHAMP video linked below.) You can call CHAMP Monday through Friday 9 am to 5 pm at (601) 984-2080 or learn more at umc.edu/CHAMP.

MAFP President Dr. Carlos Latorre and Executive Director Beth Embry are members of the CHAMP Advisory Council who help with awareness of this free service. We encourage our MAFP members to utilize this great opportunity while available.
FamDocPAC Donations Needed for
Upcoming Statewide Elections in 2022
Donations to FamDocPAC, our political action committee, are more important than ever. Per our bylaws, our FamDocPAC only donates funds for state legislative races, and 2022 will be the year for distributing those funds to Senate and House candidates.

FamDocPAC's goal is to raise $25,000 by the end of 2021. We're ony $2,700 shy of our goal! Please use these forms to give: Online Giving Form or Printable PDF Giving Form

Lunch & Learn Provides Up to 3 Hours CME, Free Lunch for You and Your Clinic
This past week, the MAFP Foundation's Jewell Buckley conducted a free one-credit hour of CME training, "A Brief Tobacco Dependence Treatment in Healthcare Settings," with two additional hours of Translation 2 Practice (t2p). This CME is funded by a grant from the Mississippi State Department of Health and Office of Tobacco Control.

Buckley conducted the CME session at MEA Medical Clinic in Canton for family physicians Drs. Patrick Whipple and Scott Carlton. She also furnished lunch for their clinic at no charge to them. Buckley informed the doctors on how to conduct brief tobacco interventions in a clinical setting, the Mississippi Tobacco Quitline, and the ease of the referral process to the Quitline.

Won't you have a Lunch & Learn at your clinic? There's no cost to you. Contact Jewell Buckley for details.
