Parent Engagement Survey - Be Heard!

Current families, please make sure you respond to the school administration’s Parent Engagement Survey. This link was sent out via portal notification this week. You may be wondering what it is about! The survey is important because it is intended to inform how the school spends Title I funding received from the state. A portion of Title I funding is designated specifically for parent involvement, including parent participation in school decision-making, and also parent support for student academic achievement. Therefore, the form asks questions about how welcoming and communicative the school administration is, and what could be done to help you be more involved in decision-making. It also asks for suggestions about what resources you would like to see funded that would help you support your child’s academic achievement. The HSA has shared the administration’s presentation about Title I funding on our website (under the Oct. 17 meeting minutes). It only takes a few minutes to respond to the survey before Nov. 27. Your opinion and involvement matter!

Your input truly matters on questions such as:

  • Do you feel our school provides a welcoming environment for parents?
  • Are you kept informed about parent engagement activities by the school?
  • What would help you participate more in decision-making and the overall academic achievement in your child's school?
  • How can teachers and school staff improve your connection to the school and value what you have to offer?

Art Update - Guest Artist Visit & Special Student Sneaker Design Opportunity

In Ms. Aubry's 12th grade Art 1 class, a guest artist / content creator, Nick Smith, came in to talk to her students about his career paths in art, content creation, and what it was like to work for Nike as a content creator and artist. Nick made a video of his visit to Masterman and posted it on his Instagram page (@lifeandkickswithnick). Nick focused on how to tell a story / narrative through your sneakers using color and inspiration from everyday life.

Students were able to use the Nike By You website / app to create their own sneaker designs as a part of a competition. Ms. Aubry's students were asked to create a custom sneaker design that is inspired by something in their life / a narrative using color and different silhouettes. Two students will be selected to have their sneakers made and paid for by Nick! Stay tuned for when Ms. Aubry announce the winners (before Winter Break!)

Funding Spotlight: Athletics

Did you know? The HSA supports athletics at Masterman in a big way. With a dedicated committee, we are working to ensure that all students and coaches are supported in their sporty activities! Athletics bring physical and mental health, community spirit, and balance to the school. There is something for everyone. Right now, the committee is planning a student assembly to celebrate the achievements of athletes in the fall season. We also offer a grant to the coach of each team to cover incidentals so they don’t have to pay for snacks or supplemental equipment out of their own pockets. And, this year we funded the purchase of a set of portable tents for teams to use at outdoor events and practices.

Right now, you can help ensure we have funds for athletics for next year by supporting the 76ers fundraiser! Buy your tickets now for the December 15 game! Then send the link to your b-ball-loving friends and family so they can enjoy the game and support Masterman athletes at the same time.
