House Bill Would Allow HBAs to Access PPP Loans
( NAHB Now) - At NAHB’s urging, Reps. Chris Pappas (D-N.H.), Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.), Gil Cisneros (D-Calif.) and Greg Steube (R-Fla.) have introduced legislation that would allow trade associations that serve the home building industry — including the hundreds of home builder associations throughout the nation — to access small business loans under the next round of funding for the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP).

NAHB has been working diligently to ensure that as Congress develops the next economic relief package, it takes additional steps to ensure broader builder eligibility under the PPP so that land developers, multifamily property owners and state and local HBAs have access to this loan program.

The bill introduced today would allow 501(c)(6) nonprofits now experiencing their own financial challenges brought on by COVID-19 to be eligible for PPP small business loans.

In a statement commending the four lawmakers for introducing the bill, NAHB Chairman Dean Mon said: “Ensuring that trade associations that serve the industry have access to the PPP will allow them to provide critical resources and support to the small home building firms that are on the front lines working to provide sorely needed housing for Americans as the nation moves forward during this pandemic. We urge the House to move swiftly to pass this legislation and for the Senate to follow suit.”
Homeowners Grow Frustrated with "Small Spaces" During Shelter-in-Place
( Realtor Magazine) - In a survey of 1,300 homeowners conducted by Realtor.com and Toluna Insights, “small spaces” were cited as the biggest complaint from homeowners about their homes during shelter-in-place.

In addition, respondents cited larger spaces and outdoor areas as “must-haves” for their next home purchases. This has led analysts to believe that home buyers might prefer to move to the suburbs to seek out that space, as well as a quiet neighborhood – another coveted home feature in the survey.

“Being stuck inside, I think people may realize what is important to them in a home and in their space,” Lisa Lippman, a real estate professional with Brown Harris Stevens, told Forbes.com. “People will consider what it would be like to reside in this space without being able to leave now. Outdoor space may become more important. I’ve talked to clients who have told me how grateful they are for theirs right now.”

GHBA Team Highlight: Vilma Bonilla
My name is Vilma Bonilla. I was born in El Salvador. In 1981, my family and I fled to the U.S. to escape violence in the country. Luckily, we had relatives in Houston, where we made our new home.

I have four sisters and one brother and have been married for 19 years to Aty Bonilla. We have four kids and five beautiful grandkids (four boys, and one princess).

I studied at Texas School of Business and earned my Associate degree in Business Management in 1988.

My greatest joy is spending time with my grandkids, watching them play basketball and baseball. We also spend a lot of time watching our youngest daughter perform in her high school drill team, so as you know, lots of high school football games to watch. It is very exciting not only to watch our daughter perform, but to enjoy Friday night football!

I love to travel with the family and have been to places like Cancun and Jamaica, but our favorite place was the Cayman Islands. In addition to my day job, I’m a Certified Scentsy Consultant “wickless candles” and have been selling Scentsy products since 2012.

I joined the GHBA as membership coordinator in 2004, and I’m part of the Membership and Retention committees. One thing I have learned is that our members always come first; customer service has always been my priority for them.
