As Athletic Haven turns the calendar to embark on our second year in existance, I am truly overcome with what we have accomplished in our first year.
Our TSM Fund reached it's 2017 goal with such wonderful events such as the What Moves You dinner and our Happy Hour gala. Mark Obleman was a terrific guest speaker at the dinner, and Glennpeter Jewelers was such a gracious host for our Happy Hour. Next up, coming in early November is going to be our Orange Party. With another great guest speaker lined up and a perfect Fall theme, this party is sure to be a big hit!
Our community events got 2017 off the ground. With dodgeball followed by our Baby Disco. We were able to get more of our local youngsters involved with 24 kids under 5 in attendance. Next to come is our largest event of the year, our fundraising poker tournament!
Finally, our Awareness Athletics program. I am so thrilled to announce that our inaugural team, boys 12U basketball had a great season! Opening the season supporting the Rich Gilooly Memorial tournament, making a tournament semi-final in mid-season and finishing their season having raised over $400 for a local charity! Congrats to coach Scott Glasheen and the entire team!
Our first year also saw us get some new found publicity, as we were featured on multiple local news channles as well as a pair of local newspapers. In March we capped it off when I was recognized as the Albany County Citizen of the Month. A humbling award that I owe to my wonderful board and volunteers.
With that in mind, I would like to thank the following people for the wonderful first year:
Chana Krausz-Papp, Diane Ethier, Lori Feinman, Kristin Marshall, Gina Bette, Kathleen Moorhead, Scott Paton, Judy Bethon, Lauren Carnahan, Morgan McIntyre, Erica Johnson, Mark Obleman, Steve Clark, Samantha Merry, Dan Clark, Jeff Holmes, Serena McIntyre, Scott Glasheen, Amber Bent, Todd Smith, Joe Guido, Mike Brehm
I am passionate about this organization, and many people are passionate about sports. But we are all passionate about children. Let's do our part!
