Greetings and Happy New Year to all Wimberley Valley Art League members and supporters.
I am Steve Shellenberger, the new WVAL President for 2022. I hope that this greeting finds you and those you love safe, in good health and that your creativity is still alive an well.
Thank all of you for your continued support and patience as the WVAL Board, in effort to keep you safe and healthy, has had to canceled most all of our events over the past two years. These have been hard decisions to make but they were the right ones under our current circumstances. Like you, I sorely miss our general meetings and our show openings. Being able to see each other’s art work, converse with old friends and making new ones. I am tired of being a hermit. Hopefully, 2022 will allow us to reunite and feel the warmth of each other’s art, smiles, laughter, hugs and good conversation.
What can you expect in 2022? We have a bevy of talented artists lined up to make presentations you will enjoy and learn from once we can safely hold our general meetings. Jan Fitzhugh and her team are working tirelessly to to make Arts Fest happen in 2022. Nancy Elliott and her team have kept Art In Public Places active allowing participating artist to display their art work to the Wimberley community. Martha Gibson and team have installed hybrid Juried Gallery Shows at the Community Center and on our website allowing members to display their art work. The Board is making plans for a membership drive and initiating a Supporter category so that local businesses can provide patronage for the our visual arts community.
In closing, I want to extend a big THANK YOU to our out going President, Lynn Jones, for her leadership, grace, great sense of humor over the past two years. While the role is supposed to be for a one year term, Lynn has unselfishly taken one for the team, and kept the position for two terms. Thank you, Lynn!
May we all be able to return to some form of normalcy in 2022.
