There are 60 million Medicare eligible Americans. These robocalls calls seem to be a fairly new “pain in the neck!" Some of the calls claim to have a name (John, Mary, Becky) and call themselves "Patient Advocates." 

They claim to work closely with Medicare and are offering healthcare screenings. They are also claiming that if you don’t act soon you will be ineligible for coverage. DON’T PANIC!  Not exactly true. 

Remember the Annual Enrollment Period? – Annually. If you are missing coverage or want to add a coverage or benefit, you can change or upgrade your plan during this time frame (October 15th to December 7th annually). Just call me. Problem Solved!

There are options to register for "Do Not Call" with different companies or apps:

1. You can register on a Do Not Call list. This list is managed by the Federal Trade Commission which notifies legitimate telemarketers to NOT CALL. You can register for free at donotcall.gov.

Phone companies or your service provider can stop robocalls and is part of what you pay them for. Activating your service provider’s protection plan should be free.

2. “AT&T: Download an app called AT&T Call Protect. The free level of service will label suspected spammers and gives you the option to automatically block calls that are a fraud risk.”

3. “Verizon: Download an app called Verizon Call Filter, available now for iPhones and coming in a few weeks for Android.”

4. “T-Mobile: Most T-Mobile customers already have the company’s Scam ID and Scam Block service turned on, with no need to download an additional app.”

Bottom line, hang up on these type of calls. I have always educated my clients that “if you have NOT given someone permission to call you (especially if they are offering Medicare information and enrollments), it is AGAINST (as a licensed agent) our COMPLIANCE AND REGULATIONS.

These nuisance calls can be reported to the Department of Financial Services or Medicare directly. Hopefully then the calls will stop the person buying marketing lists and making these calls.
