PUBLIC SAFETY INITIATIVES

Safety Zones have been designated along portions of Old Dock Road and Chapoquoit Road just in time for the influx of seasonal residents and summer visitors. Perhaps you noticed the signage? Thanks to all who advocated for this much needed safety improvement in the Village.

The project to install sidewalks from the parking lot on Old Dock Road to the boat ramp and an ADA compliant crosswalk at Nashawena is beginning as well as indicated by the drop-off of these materials this week.

TITLE V SUPPLEMENTAL REGULATION FOLLOW UP

In our last newsletter, we informed you that the Board of Health was working on regulations that would govern septic systems in designated nitrogen sensitive areas and would require best available nitrogen reducing technologies to be installed. There will be a public hearing on a proposed draft regulation specific to "new construction" on Monday, May 19th at 5:30pm in the high school auditorium.

The draft regulation to be discussed is linked here.

COMMUNITY EVENTS

WFVA hosted a screening of the Emmy Award winning documentary, "We're All Plastic People Now" on Earth Day. We welcomed a panel of speakers and had a lively discussion following the film. We were fortunate to have representatives from Oceana, Care for the Cape and Islands and Surfrider Foundation at the event to share their vast knowledge with the audience. Thank you to Amy Roth, Vice Chair of our Board of Health and Philip Gessen from the Plastics Reduction Advisory Committee who elaborated on Town of Falmouth efforts to combat the dangers of microplastics. The newly adopted Town of Falmouth Plastics Reduction Policy goes into effect on 9/1/25. It will be posted on the Board of Health website soon, but we have linked a copy for those who are interested.

INT'L FIREFIGHTER'S DAY

We make it a priority to express our appreciation for the firefighters at the West Falmouth Station each year on this day. Lunch and recognition compliments of the West Falmouth Village Association.

COMMUNITY CLEANUPS

Would you like to join us as we lead community cleanups? Look how much fun Mary Bunker Ryther and Phil from Craggy Ridge had collecting trash along West Falmouth Highway! Be on the lookout for future opportunities.

A NOTE FROM TERRI GARDNER, WEST FALMOUTH POSTMASTER

Lloyd Harvey has worked for the West Falmouth Post office for almost 9 years. The community of West Falmouth held a potluck on Wednesday, April 30th to say goodbye as he starts his retirement. He was sent off with a belly full of homemade goodies and a heart full of love. Lloyd will be greatly missed.
