Principal's Message
Nothing Lacking
When you realize there is nothing lacking, the whole world belongs to you.
~ Lao Tzu
Have you ever noticed that during parties or family gatherings people tend to congregate in the kitchen, regardless of how small the space? Or, what about when you put on a movie for a group of children? They tend to crash onto the same sofa or into a pile on the floor. Consider these things the next time you feel you need a grander home. Friends and family want togetherness, oftentimes literally. So why do we always think we need more space? Is it because we want room for more stuff or for more people? Sometimes, everything we need, our whole world, is right under our roof and nothing is lacking.
With something to think about . . .
Sincerely,
Daniel P. Weishar
Principal

The

It was a very uplifting and energetic atmosphere complete with the AFHS Dance Co, Drill team, Skyridge Ballroom, and Lehi Ballroom teams providing halftime shows in all four gyms throughout the day. Dance Company
represented AFHS in the Alpine District Dance Concert hosted by Westlake High in October. Joining with over 200 dancers from across the district, we were able to participate in a master class taught by Stacey Clark, who has been dancing professionally with Cirque Du Soleil for 9 years. Each school then came together in a spirit of collaboration and sharing to each perform two dances in an unforgettable concert. It was a wonderful evening of dance, celebrating the talented dancers and choreographers of Alpine School District. (See pictures below)

AFHS Floriculture
Classes
displayed the vibrant colors of the harvest in making beautiful floral centerpieces in pumpkins this month. This is just one of many hands on learning projects you can participate in while taking Agriculture CTE classes.
Floriculture counts towards the
Plant Science Pathway
in the Agriculture, Food, & Natural Resources area. Other classes in the pathway are Greenhouse Management, Plant & Soil Science, Biology/Agriculture Science, Business Communication, Leadership, and Business Management. Agriculture pathways also offer Summer Ag credit and internships.
Careers in the Plant Systems CTE Pathway are in “high demand” and can lead to a variety of career options including Florist, Greenhouse worker/Owner, Landscape/Designer Architect, Agriculture Education Teacher, Extension Specialist.
Talk to your counselor about taking fun, interesting, skill based and hands-on CTE classes in any of the 7 areas of study. When you find an area you really enjoy, pick a CTE Career Pathway you can complete in high school.

SUB FOR SANTA
During this holiday season, the students at AFHS will be hosting a Sub for Santa campaign to help members of our community. The money raised will provide a Christmas for 8 families and also grant a wish of a child through Make-A-Wish Utah. Our goal is $25,000 and we ask for your support to help us reach that goal. One way to support is by visiting our school website and clicking on the yellow donate button. Enter the amount you are comfortable with and specify that the donation is for Sub for Santa. Another way to support is by attending our Festival of Trees event. It will be held on Monday, December 4 at 5:30pm in the AFHS cafeteria. Tickets are $6 per person and kids 2 and under are free. There will be a catered dinner by Apple Spice Junction, activities for kids, Santa, and a live auction. We will be auctioning off trees and wreaths that have been decorated by the clubs and organizations at AFHS. Tickets can be purchased at the AFHS Finance Office or from a Student Council member. You can also support our campaign by eating at
Zupas in American Fork on Tuesday, November 28 from 5-8pm and....
Culvers in Lehi on November 29 from 5-8pm. When you order, mention that you are there for AFHS Sub for Santa and a percentage will be given to our campaign. We hope that you will support our Sub for Santa efforts and have a Happy Holiday.

PTSA NEWS
AF’s PTSA has been busy this fall! We’ve met several times with Mr. Weishar to discuss and give input on issues impacting our students. We sponsored a luncheon and get-to-know-you activity for students new to AF, helped with fall pictures, provided dinner for faculty and staff on parent/teacher conference night, and are preparing for the upcoming PTA Reflections contest.
We’re looking ahead at ways to support the students’ Festival of Trees activities, plus we're investigating sites for Grad Night this spring. It seems there are always activities ahead to be planned. Our friendly group would welcome volunteers willing to help with PTSA events. Interested? Contact President Charissa Little at
jamesonandcharissa@hotmail.com
.
Our PTSA stands in support of this great school. If you didn’t join PTSA at registration, we encourage parents, students and faculty to join us with your dues of $6 today. Did you know that nearly half of our member families purchase a membership for both parent and student? Did you know that a student membership provides a discount to PTSA activities like Grad Night? So, while you’re thinking about it, stop by the Finance Office or online at Alpine One Stop via the school’s website. Welcome to American Fork’s PTSA!
