Learning More About the Sun!

First grade is continuing to learn about patterns of the sun this week! As an extension of our science lessons last week, we went outside and took turns drawing our shadows with chalk--once in the morning and once in the afternoon. We then discussed how our shadows changed throughout the day and why. We used these observations to make predictions about patterns of the sun and how the sun moves in the sky causing shadows to change throughout the day. What a fun hands-on experiment and application of our learning from last week!

2nd Grade Living Wax Museum

Second Grade held a Living Wax Museum and it was a huge hit! In class, each student read a different book about a person who made a difference in the world. They created a report and shared it with the class. During the Living Wax Museum, students were dressed up in costume as their famous person and were frozen like a statue in a museum. They were brought to life when a button was pushed, and they recited a speech they had written. Second graders did an outstanding job!

Khan Academy

What is Khan Academy? This app based only program allows us to assign students individualized skills to help target their needs. In the classroom, we provide tablets for students to log into their Khan Academy account and work on engaging, hands-on lessons!

During class-wide writing and research, 4th grade students are able to use their own devices to access online resources and tools to enhance their learning. It allows them to explore topics that are interesting to them and work at their own pace and level. Students are also able to collaborate with their peers, and creatively express their learning and new ideas to the class.

Here are some testimonies from our students:

"I like it because I get to learn new things like geography and I enjoy learning that." - Natalie

"I like it because I get to learn new things that I haven't learned before. It is a different way to learn than we usually use." - Eden

"I feel like for some people it might be difficult, but it is like learning a new subject. It might be overwhelming at first, but once you get the hang of it, it is a great way to learn."- Logan
