Supporting Low Performance, Low Attendance Classes

“Students vote with their feet” is a common phrase in adult education. This presentation will introduce tough conversations about how to identify a low performing class and strategies to support the instructor and students as well as methods to address low performance classrooms. Adult education professionals are all in the generation changing business and as such are required to have tough conversations about student retention and persistence. Students have the desire but also multiple barriers that prevent them from achieving their academic, personal and professional goals. We will discuss institutional strategies to help remove barriers for students.
Beyond the Classroom: Real-World Learning Through Community Connections

Using a case study with the LA Conservancy, we’ll break down the cycle of classroom prep, hands-on engagement, and reflection. Want to add some additional games, mixers, and other communicative activities to your teaching palette? Join Donna Price as she shares activities that reinforce the ELPS for adult education. She will share five standards and demonstrate game-like activities for online classes that address the standard. Adaptable to any level, these activities reinforce listening, speaking, reading, writing, vocabulary, and grammar to prepare students for standardized tests that are based on the ELPS.
