Notes from the Chair...

Gloria Campos

Greetings Fellow Democrats! Just a few things to bring you up to date on our local party’s doings.

Through an arrangement with The Texas Democratic Party some sixty five year old and older voters soon will be getting vote by mail applications. Please fill these out as soon as possible as they are due by February 23rd.

Many of you all will also be getting text alerts through our partnership with our “Contest Every Race” two-year grant. This is our first effort to use this totally free service so I’m eager to get your feedback. It’s my goal to start using this service often. Let me know what you think.

Finally, as you know March 5th is Super Tuesday and there plenty of Democrats on the statewide ballot this year. Seven candidates are challenging President Biden on the Texas ballot while there are a total of nine Democrats who would like to unseat Senator Ted Cruz in the November 5th Election.

There are seven contested statewide races from Railroad Commission to Supreme Court and Appeals Courts. One race of local interest pits Dwain Handley of Burnet County against Zach Vance of Lago Vista for State Representative, District 19 - a position now held by freshman GOP State Rep Ellen Troxclair. Troxclair herself has two opponents in the March Republican primary.

Many of you will be getting a postcard with the names of our Democratic candidates and where to find more information about them. I’m proud to say eight candidates on the March ballot have taken time to meet with Blanco County Democrats. Many thanks to Precinct Chair 201 Brenda Thomas for doing a tremendous job on the postcard. It looks great!

Remember everyone is invited to our monthly meetings which alternate between Blanco and Johnson City. This month we are meeting at Blanco Library on Main Street. As always we take a break for refreshments!

Blanco County Elections Administrator Rosemary Adame needs poll workers for election day, March 5th. If you are able please visit the Blanco County Elections website, scroll down to the fourth blue box from the bottom and select Election Workers. You can link to the application and online training at that site. You can reach Rosemary at (830) 868-7168.

This reminds me to welcome Betty McNallen for volunteering to serve on our events committee. We could be having a special event soon so stay tuned!

By the way, you must vote in the March primary to vote at our county Democratic Party Convention Saturday March 23 at the Gem of the Hills in Blanco. It’s your chance to let us know what issues are important to you and to vote on delegates to our state convention in El Paso June 6-8th.

There are plenty of reasons NOT to stay home this primary season. A lot of good people, strong Democratic candidates need our support!

Remember early voting begins February 20 through March 1. Election Day March 5th.

January...

At our January 10th Regular Meeting in Johnson City, Blanco Democrats were greeted by two candidates.

Meri Gomez, candidate for US Senate, gave a strong case for her leadership and replacement of our current US Senator. "We can never be prepared for death or child birth", but she feels her understanding of tax code would be a strong benefit to all Texans she serves in the US Senate.

Texas House District 19 candidate Zach Vance shared his platform's focus on Education, Water and Foster Kids and explained his strong military background and the reason's his campaign is focused on the protection of the democracy he fought for.
