CFMS BUILDING NEWSLETTER
February 8, 2019

Dear CFMS Families,

N ext week we will be celebrating Random Acts of Kindness at CFMS. The whole theme for the week will be how spreading acts of kindness can make positive differences in our own lives and the lives of others. Each day next week we will challenge students to spread kindness to different groups:

Monday - Students
Tuesday - Staff
Wednesday - Family
Thursday - Self

Please help encourage your child to follow through on the challenges next week and to be genuine. We will ask students to complete and turn in challenge cards. We will then have a drawing at the end of the week and 15 students will earn the privilege to attend a future special volunteer trip during school!

If you see your child spreading kindness snap a photo and post on social media with the hashtags #CFEVS #startswithone . Children need to know what their parents value. Let them know just how much you support their pursuit to be kind!

Best,
Principal, Chagrin Falls Middle School

Support the Troops
The CFMS 8th grade class is preparing to send care packages to military troops who are deployed overseas. We are asking for your help to share the names and addresses of any family members, friends or neighbors who have a connection to the Chagrin community or Cleveland area. Care packages are the best way to stay connected and allows us to send a little piece of our community and the Cleveland area to our deployed service members.

We are also accepting any donation that can be included in our care packages to make receiving them that much more exciting. We plan to include food items, personal hygiene items, small scale sporting goods, ball caps/hats and new clothing such as Chagrin, Indians, Cavs, and CLE items/clothing.

Please share the contact names/addresses of deployed service men and women and any donation inquiry to the enrichment adviser, Tammy Mrofchak, at Chagrin Falls Middle School, ( [email protected] ) or call Tammy @ 440-893-7695, ext 4336.
District Wellness Committee

 INFORMATION FOR FAMILIES
Increased clarity for reporting student incidents
We are thankful to the district’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee for their suggestion to improve our Student Incident Reporting Form to increase clarity and communication between home and school. Of course we hope never to need this resource, but if we do, please know that parents, students, and staff may use this link to report any number of student incidents directly to the principal. Teachers and administrators always welcome your calls and emails, too. You will find the link added to each building’s webpage.

Medications at School
IF YOUR CHILD NEEDS MEDICATION(S) AT SCHOOL
Medication order forms, including Allergy, Asthma, Diabetic and Seizure Action Plans need to be renewed every school year - they  do not  carry over year to year. All medication forms and Action Plans can be found on the Health Services section of the school's website  http://www.chagrinschools.org/HealthServices1.aspx
Mental Wellness Corner - this month’s topic….
healthy diet, healthy mind.

Think about it. Your brain is always “on.” It takes care of your thoughts and movements, your breathing and heartbeat, your senses — it works hard 24/7, even while you’re asleep. This means your brain requires a constant supply of fuel. That “fuel” comes from the foods you eat — and what’s in that fuel makes all the difference. Put simply, what you eat directly affects the structure and function of your brain and, ultimately, your mood.

N ew or Review for Chagrin Falls Middle School
For the safety and security of all students, staff and visitors/volunteers at Chagrin Falls Middle School,  no one will be permitted in the school building without signing in through the LobbyGuard Visitor Management System and providing your driver license to be held in the main office until you leave.

We thank you in advance for your cooperation and support!
Safer Ohio Tip Line
The single greatest deterrent of an act of violence is identification and intervention with at risk students. All students, parents and staff must feel comfortable expressing concern and alerting the appropriate individual(s) when concerns arise. The state of Ohio has an anonymous tip line that can be reached via text or call with any issue of concern, 1-844-SaferOH  (844-723-3764 ). This line is monitored by analysts at the Ohio Homeland Security Threat Assessment and Prevention Unity at all times.
