Spring 2022
Hello Colleagues, Students and Community Partners,

I am so excited to share our first biannual newsletter with you. I wanted to highlight our faculty and the remarkable scholarship they are producing. Their contributions are meaningful, relevant and impactful. I want you to also get to know the work of our continuing education department, centers and institutes. This newsletter also highlights the incredible contributions of our students—we are so proud to call them our own.

In March, we commemorated Women's History Month as well as Social Work Month. To honor the contributions of women to the profession, we organized a special virtual event where Mildred “Mit” C. Joyner, DPS, president of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), was the keynote speaker. She discussed where social work is headed as a profession and how it could respond more effectively to the changes in society we are seeing. She was accompanied by three panelists: Carol Cohen, DSW, professor of social work at Adelphi; Kari Tabag, MSW ’97, a PhD candidate and adjunct faculty member at Adelphi; and Erica Sandoval, president of the NASW – New York City chapter. We had over 700 attendees at this event. I want to thank our speakers and all the folks who helped make this program come to fruition.

This month, we held the second annual virtual conference on ecological justice titled “Fostering Resilience and Cultivating Impact.” And we also organized “BreaKING the Ice: Black Men's Mental Health and Wellness Conference” for the first time at Adelphi. As the Adelphi University School of Social Work, we strive each day to bring our mission to life!

Sincerely,
Manoj Pardasani, PhD
