See our Adoptable Dogs

DOG DAYS OF

Summer

Our Mission is to "Save More Than Dogs!"

Paws in Prison educates female inmates for greater responsibility and empathy through the rescue and training of shelter dogs to be adopted by the public.

The women who participate in the Paws in Prison program are given an opportunity to earn certifications that could benefit them for job opportunities after prison release.

One way we empower the inmates and parolees is through a scholarship program. In 2021, we held the first "Second Chances" Mobile Art Gallery fundraiser for the scholarship fund. We raised over $6,000 at this event and have since given FIVE scholarships in the animal care industry.

We want to invite you to be a part of this life changing program. These scholarships don't cost much but they mean the world to the women inside who earn them. The scholarship gives them a new sense of pride and accomplishment. Knowing that someone believed in them renews their spirit and passion to change their life and the lives of those around them for the better. They are excited to become productive members of society instead of going back to their old ways.

We would love to recreate this event but have been unable to find a sponsor and location. Can you help?

Below is some of the original artwork created by the inmates and sold at the last Second Chances Art Gallery event.

Our past FIVE scholarship recipients studied Grooming, Animal Care, and Veterinary Assistance. In 2023, Ladies of Charity Lake Travis gifted our program with $10,000. Some of these funds will be offered to Katrina B in the fall to continue her college studies in Animal Care after parole.

Katrina's Testimony

Above is a photo of the first four ladies who were able to start their college education INSIDE the prison through correspondence college. Two have already graduated, after they made parole, with a Veterinarian Assistant Certification and are now working in the animal care world. The other two are still incarcerated, awaiting parole, and are one course away from completing their certification with a 95% average.
