A Note From Pastor Dinger:
Part of the human experience in this Fallen World involves temptation. And there are countless temptations in life. It can feel like at every turn there is a temptation from the world to turn us from God. What are we to do when we face temptation?
We can be like Mae West who said that whenever she had to choose between two evils, she picked the one she hadn't tried yet. Or we can follow the adage: "If you're going to do something tonight that you'll be sorry for tomorrow morning, sleep late." Or we can go the way of the client who says to the lawyer, "The question of right and wrong is very clear. I want you to cloud it up for me."
Temptation is all around us. What are we to do? The Good News is that Jesus came and lived as one of us – he fully experienced what it is to be human. He experienced our feelings, emotions and temptations – yet he never gave in – he always worshiped the Father and did His will.
But that’s not all he did. Jesus isn’t just an example of how not to give in to temptation – a perfect person to make us all feel guilty because we aren’t like him. No, Jesus stood in our place, did what we can’t do, died to sin and so that we might live in Him. So when we face temptation we don’t have to try to defeat it ourselves, we simply turn to Jesus and in the Spirit of God we let him fight the battle for us. And the Good News is – He already won. Yes, there is temptation all around us, but we don't have to give in because we are in Christ Jesus our Lord.
