Two Valley Cities Among Most Business-Savvy
Burbank has been ranked as No. 14
in a Verizon Business report that looked at the country’s most “business-ready” cities.

Verizon Business compiled the report to find cities that are poised for significant growth as the economy recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic. Thousand Oaks ranked No. 9 in the report that included cities from California, Arizona, Texas, Missouri and Florida.

The Latest LA County Bids
The County of Los Angeles Internal Services Department (ISD) has released a Request for Proposals (RFP) for e-Procurement System and Related Services.

Hot & Cool Café, an LA County-certified social enterprise, is a local Black-owned and family-operated coffee shop and vegan restaurant which just opened its second location on the ground floor of “Vert” Apartments in Woodland Hills.

The Alliance helped Hot & Cool apply for loans and grants and matched the owners with a marketing consultant to help them further establish their brand in the Valley. The Alliance welcomes Hot & Cool Café to the San Fernando Valley.
The Valley Works Job Board is available for job seekers to connect with various industry employers. This free on-line job board provides the following:

  • Supplemental Employers Pavilion – In this section, you can access the “Jobs” pages of our partners.

Making Your Impact
The San Fernando Valley Business Journal reported that Alliance Founder Mel Wilson, Mel Wilson & Associates has announced his candidacy for Los Angeles mayor.

In 1994 after the devastating Northridge earthquake, Mel and a number of other Valley leaders formed the Economic Alliance primarily to market and brand the San Fernando Valley to get businesses back on their feet.

The CSUN Innovation Incubator (Cii) helps students turn business ideas into marketable products and programs, resulting in successful enterprises.

The U.S. State Department has asked Tim Tiemann, managing director of CSUN’s Innovation Incubator in the David Nazarian College of Business and Economics, to develop similar business incubators with South Africa’s universities this fall.

The San Fernando Valley Business Journal won the Gold award for Best Newspaper in a national contest of business journals and other local business publications.
It is the fourth time in the last five years the Business Journal has won the top award from the Alliance of Area Business Publishers.

The Business Journal also won the Gold award for Best Overall Design. It is the fifth time in the last seven years it has won that honor.

Publisher Charles Crumpley won a Gold award for Best Bylined Commentary for his column titled “One More Thing.” It the fourth time in the last five years he won the Gold award.

To encourage local giving for causes in The Valley, we are conducting the Give Where You Live campaign.
