Ontario Sailing Application for Sail Canada Youth Championships

Ontario Sailing is now accepting applications to be considered for the Sail Canada Youth Championships at CORK in July and August. Details can be found within the application (below).

Deadline for submission of applications is Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at noon ET.
IMPORTANT
Information for ALL Instructors

In 2021, Sail Canada introduced a new requirement (for ALL instructors) to further the understanding and compliance with Safe Sport best practices. The training is available online, free of charge, through the Coaching Association of Canada.

Instructors need to complete this training before registering for the season!

We encourage all Sailing School Directors and all Board members to participate in this free training as well!
Kite Survey

Ontario Sailing had a great open meeting with some of Ontario’s Kite Community on Thursday, June 10, 2021. We were joined by Mike Milner, the High Performance Director of Sail Canada.

As a group, we felt that we should open up a survey to ask if there is enough interest in forming a Work Group to support Kites.

Ontario Sailing will open our Maple Leaf Kite Group for those interested in supporting, also giving them the right to race in any Sail Canada/Ontario Sailing sanctioned events.
As kites are now in the next Olympic Games, we want to make sure our Province is establishing a good representation on the National Team.

This is not just about competition. It is also about supporting the Grass Roots, the water access, the setting of a Code of Conduct for Kiters and working on cross-recognition of Instructor Certification.

Please click below to fill in a short survey in order to help us better understand the interest. Deadline for submissions is Thursday, July 8, 2021 at noon.

We look forward to hearing your thoughts on how Ontario Sailing can support the Kite community!
Safe Quiet Lakes 2021 Survey

Your Lakes, Your Views 2021 is a survey that gathers the experiences and opinions of all who use and love the waterways in the Muskoka and Georgian Bay regions.

This critically important survey is being implemented by Algonquin College and sponsored by Safe Quiet Lakes in partnership with more than 40 lake associations.

They want to know about the joys of activities on the lake and river environments, and what, if anything, detracts from your enjoyment of the lakes and rivers.

They need to hear from everyone in your home or cottage! Please share the survey link with your family, friends, and neighbours.

Safe Quiet Lakes will make the survey report available on its website later in the summer season. Results in aggregate form will be shared with elected officials, the OPP, Transport Canada, and all participating lake associations.

The survey closes Monday, July 12, 2021.
2021 Club Reciprocal Policies during COVID

Ontario Sailing has added a page to their list of COVID resources dedicated to letting clubs know how other clubs are handling reciprocals in 2021 and whether they are accepting visitors. This page can be accessed at https://ontariosailing.ca/feature/2021-reciprocals-covid/.

If you would like to have your club's current situation posted, please send the following information to [email protected] . You can check out what other clubs have posted by visiting the link above.

  1. Is your dock open to visitors from other clubs at this time? Yes or No.
  2. If the answer is Yes, please indicate briefly the details - this could be in the form of a link on your club's website, a short description of your club's protocols, a document that contains your club's information, etc. If you have a lot to say, providing a link or document would be your best choice as we are trying to keep the information to a minimum while still being thorough.
  3. Contact information in the form of an email address, a phone number, a website link, etc. so that visitors can reach out if necessary.

Once the information is posted, it will be the responsibility of each club to send changes to the email address listed above so that updates can be made to their listing.

National #GoSailing Days

July 31 - August 1, 2021

Canadians will be invited to discover the joy of sailing or to enjoy their favourite sport this summer, particularly over the weekend of July 31st and August 1st as Sail Canada, in collaboration with the Provincial Associations, sailing clubs and schools across the country, will stage various initiation activities during the 2021 #GoSailing days.

Organizations who are looking to take part in these #GoSailing days can record the activities they are planning on July 31 and August 1 at https://www.sailing.ca/gosailing. They have until July 20 to do so. Clubs and schools will also have access to promotional tools that are designed to introduce sailing to Canadians, especially in the context of the competitions that will be held at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

On July 31st and August 1st, Canadians looking to get acquainted with sailing in the company of their family members will find all the details on the programming offered by participating clubs and schools on Sail Canada’s website at www.sailing.ca/gosailing.
