Discovery Church News
Corona Virus Statement
To the brothers and sisters of Discovery Church,
As elders we have continued to keep ourselves updated about increasing concerns regarding coronavirus. We continue to labor with you, for your joy, under two main biblical convictions. First, we are totally at rest in the knowledge that, over all things, Jesus Christ reigns supreme. Coronavirus cannot stand against the power and purpose of Christ. Our God works out all things “according to the counsel of his will” (Ephesians 1:11). The Lord “does according to his will among the host of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay his hand or say to him, ‘What have you done?’” (Daniel 4:35). It is a joy to see our church family share this conviction with us!
The other conviction is that the Lord asks us to love one another and walk in wisdom. “The simple believes everything, but the prudent gives
thought to his steps” (Proverbs 14:15). “You shall love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:39).

In an effort to acknowledge both the supremacy of the Lord Jesus and our command to walk in wisdom we are taking the follow actions to promote minimal risk in gathering as a church.

Immediate Steps:
Elders communicate daily and assess any new actions that need to be taken
Make hand sanitizer available at every entrance and bathroom in our facility
Temporarily suspend our “handshake and greeting time” that would normally take place in our worship service
Direct our weekly greeters not to shake hands
     Temporarily discontinue bulletin distribution
Temporarily discontinue all food service in church activities (e.g., Wednesday night meals, Sunday morning treats/coffee)
Collect offering in baskets at the entrance before and after the worship service rather than pass the bags through the congregation
Continue our top-notch cleaning procedures with disinfectants

Wednesday Night Meals, Discovery Zone Classes and Revival Youth Group
All nursery services. While we recognize this inconveniences many people we wish to be especially cautious with our youngest children. However, our new cry room will be made available for immediate use.
Cold-Case Christianity Adult Sunday School Class
     Children’s Sunday School Classes

Ministries and Gatherings that will continue at this time:
Sunday morning worship services at 10:30
Children’s Church during our morning worship service
Men’s and women’s small group Bible studies
One Sunday School time, open to all, for a time of relevant teaching and prayer at 9:00 AM (busy bags available for any parents that wish to include their children). This week we will also livestream Sunday School on Facebook here .
Gathering Grounds will remain open with increased sanitary precautions

What Should You Do?

Do not live in fear. Trust God. “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:4-7)
If you are sick, please stay home, take all steps to protect your health and seek medical care/advice as needed.
If you are among those who have a higher risk of infection (e.g., over 60, compromised immune system, etc) get professional medical advice or contact your physician before making any decisions about attending any large gatherings.
Follow your conscience. If you are not sick but still uncomfortable attending large group gatherings you should not feel obligated to attend. This situation will pass. These conditions are temporary. We do not want anyone to have even one ounce of guilt if they are more comfortable staying home to minimize their risk.
Let the office, the pastor, or the elders know about your plans so that we can be mindful of all that ways we need to minister to you in your particular situation.
Remember that we live stream every worship service on our Facebook page. Log in to Facebook here and watch if you are unable to attend.
Continue to check Facebook, text messages, and e-mails as available in order to stay updated and aware of any changes.
