Mayor's Message

At the May 6th Township Committee Meeting, I issued a proclamation in support of Cranford’s Green Team Sustainable Jersey Land Use Pledge. Our Environmental Commission, Clean and Green Team Committee, and Shade Tree Commission all play a vital role in promoting environmentally responsible practices around the Township. They routinely comment on development projects aiming to reduce their environmental impact and improve the quality of life for Cranford residents. They encourage practical actions like energy efficiency, green building, native plantings and waste reduction to not only foster local environmental stewardship, but also position Cranford to receive support, funding and recognition for their efforts, ultimately contributing to a more resilient and sustainable Cranford. On behalf of the Township Committee, I offer my thanks to the volunteers of these committees who give much time and effort to the Township, and I encourage you to visit @mygreencranford Facebook page to learn more.

"As mentioned previously, it’s Food Allergy Awareness week and month. As a parent with now both of my children having food allergies, I just wanted to share some information with the public. Personally, I was not keenly aware of some of the nuances regarding food allergies. These are not preferences, and not something that might give someone a stomach ache, or make them unwell. Food allergies are potentially lethal, from something as innocuous as feeding oneself. Food allergies should also be known to be different than those with Celiac or Gluten sensitivities, although much empathy is given to those folks as well. For any member of the public wishing to learn more about Food Allergies, I would recommend visiting https://www.foodallergy.org, there you can find information regarding Food Allergy Myths and Facts, how to recognize and respond to a reaction, and much, much more."

Township-Right-Of-Way Tree Inventory To Begin May 15

The Shade Tree Commission received a grant from the Department of Environmental Protection to conduct an inventory of municipal trees and prepare an updated Community Forestry Management Plan. Work on this tree inventory, which will begin on or about Monday, May 12, is being conducted by ArborPro, Inc., and will continue for the next few weeks. Representatives from ArborPro (who will carry proper identification) will be collecting data regarding trees that are in the township right-of-way. This data will help us manage our community trees more effectively as we work to expand the tree canopy.
