Chair Talk...

My fellow Democrats. What’s going on in our country is despicable, cruel, and illegal! But we can, and should, remind ourselves of the vast number of beautiful, feisty, patriotic Blanco Democrats who showed up for the No Kings rally in Johnson City on October 18th, and across our great nation - plus the many who wished they could be there but had reasons they couldn’t. Imagine if they had been standing on either side of us, literally propping us up! We are not alone. Trump and his cronies are outnumbered—not us. It is they who will eventually be routed—not us. It is they who should worry about losing this battle - not us. In fact, our victory is inevitable. Not because tyrants always fall, but because we will make sure this one does!

So let us pick up our grief, our anger, our horror and anxiety, and remember, it isn’t our feelings that will determine the outcome of this fight. It’s our actions. There will be an end to this. How can I be so sure? Because I know who you are. More importantly, I know what we, together, are capable of.

Here’s an example of that capability. Stadiums across the country are investing in solar panels, energy efficiency, and waste reduction - not because of politics, but because it makes economic sense and earns public support. It helps their bottom line while it helps the planet that sustains us all. Mercedes-Benz Stadium, home to the Atlanta Falcons, became the first sports stadium to earn Platinum certification for diverting 90% or more of its waste from landfills. The stadium uses around 4,000 solar panels to support its operations, including a fruit and vegetable garden (irrigated with rainwater from a cistern) for its in-house culinary team. Clearly, the wealthiest sports teams in the world recognize the value of sustainability and are acting in their - and our - best interests. Donald Trump, evidently, has other priorities. Green energy creates jobs, strengthens our economy, and makes America more energy independent. This is important - a fight for the environment and our future, which we will win!

We had a great meeting on Wednesday, October 8th. Holly Taylor is one of our people - so intelligent, caring, and fun. She has made a commitment to equal justice before the law and to seeking remedies for wrongful convictions. The position she is running for, Judge on the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, Place 9, covers the entire state. So, she and her husband John are traveling to every county. I hope to see you all at our next meeting on November 12 at the CRC building in Johnson City. Our speaker is Michael Lange. He is running for Texas Comptroller. The Comptroller is an important position, and a Democrat doing that job would be amazing. Let’s work hard for the candidates we like, and with our actions, WIN BACK TEXAS and OUR COUNTRY!

Join the Texas Democratic Party as we build our year-round organizing machine to take on Donald Trump and Republican extremists in the Texas Capitol.

On these calls, we will:

  • Educate voters on what’s happening at the Lege,
  •  Assist VDRs renew their certification so they can register voters,
  •  Invite Democrats to upcoming events around the state, and prepare for the worst if we need to check in on our neighbors during extreme winter conditions.

We can make this Texas a Texas that works for everyone, but we can’t do it without you – we look forward to seeing you on the call!
