FUNDERS SPOTLIGHT

The Frank M. & Gertrude R. Doyle Foundation, Inc.

SHOH is the grateful recipient of a $50,000 grant awarded by the Frank M. & Gertrude R. Doyle Foundation in October 2017. This grant will assist our Transitional Living Home program in Banning to provide services to women needing housing and support upon completion of their stay in our residential SUD treatment program in Desert Hot Springs. A special thank you to Mrs. Maryreed Roberts for supporting SHOH for so many years and for believing in our mission.

BANK OF AMERICA

SHOH is honored to have been recently awarded a $2,500 grant from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation, one of the premier philanthropic corporations in the country. By collaborating our resources and solution-driven ideas with Bank of America, we are helping low-income women most in need of help to build substance-free lives and achieve financial stability through our recovery programs. Learn more on Facebook at www.facebook.com/BankofAmerica, on Twitter at @bankofamerica, and on Instagram at bankofamerica.

KAISER PERMANENTE

SHOH also received a $10,000 grant from Kaiser Permanente - Moreno Valley Community Benefit Charitable Contributions Program. Kaiser is the largest managed health care provider in the U.S., with over 10 million health plan members in eight states and the District of Columbia. Kaiser is well-known for its commitment to wellness and access to health care, and provides over $25 million in grants annually to help underserved individuals and families achieve optimal physical and emotional health. Kaiser's generous support will be utilized to serve women at our Desert Hot Springs recovery center in the coming year.

We are grateful to the Frank M. & Gertrude R. Doyle Foundation,  Bank of America and Kaiser Permanente (and all of our government, corporate, foundation, local business, Soroptimist clubs, and individual supporters) whose generosity makes our work possible!

Soroptimist House of Hope
President's Message

One of the things I really enjoy about my volunteer work with Soroptimist House of Hope is our willingness to try new things, like using this newsletter to reach out to individuals and corporate donors, like you, who contribute to our organization's annual budget. Every dollar of your support is so appreciated. On behalf of the Board, staff and all of our clients, I would like to thank you so much.

So, one of the new things we will be doing this next year is moving our annual fundraiser, "A Day of Hope", to the Classic Club in Palm Desert. Think about that Holiday gift and a wonderful way to support SHOH. Please go to our website for more information. Tickets are on sale now.

This will be the last newsletter of the year since we are on a quarterly basis, so from our house to yours, we wish all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving and a wonderful Holiday Season.

Respectfully,
George Fisher, President

Executive Director Message

JULY 2017  -  SEPTEMBER 2017

As we close out the 3rd Quarter and head into the final quarter of 2017, I am reminded that a full and thankful heart and a conscious contact with a Power greater than myself is truly what gets me through the daily work of helping others. Be it a client recovering from addiction in our treatment program, a woman transitioning back into the mainstream, a homeless person needing a bottle of water on a hot day or donating to help storm, massacre and fire victims. The trials and tragedies over the last few months are weighing on all of us. Those of us in the helping profession need to understand that as human beings we are very sensitive to the phenomenon of mass grieving, broken hearts at every turn and one huge loss right after another. Take care of yourself to the best of your ability. Give your love and laughter to those you can. Share a hug and a smile even if you don't feel like it.  SHOH is here for any and all who need a friendly voice, encouragement getting through a difficult time or a shoulder to cry on.  As we continue to work with Riverside County, DHCS (California Department of Health Care Services) and CCAPP (California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals) to maintain our high standards of SUD treatment, we also know that one addict helping another is one of the best ways to hold one another up during the waves of events that are occurring even as this is being written. My hope for everyone is that the coming holiday season will bring peace and solace to a hurting land. One Day at a Time we can help one another to live life on life's terms.

STEVE BUSS
Steve Buss, beloved husband of SHOH Staff Member Elizabeth Buss, passed away suddenly on September 24, 2017. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Elizabeth and all of Steve's family. CLIENT COMMENTS

When I arrived at SHOH, I was totally against treatment and thought I didn't need any help. After 90 days, I have a new way of thinking and a new way of living. Thank you so much for the tools to live life on life's terms clean and sober.
D.

I have never felt the support from anybody in my life that I have felt from the women of SHOH. Now I can say I have the courage to live a healthy, sober life with my children and loved ones. I felt blessed the minute I walked through the door. Thank you so much for everything.
C.M.

Words can't explain how much SHOH had done for me. I have a stronger foundation for my recovery and am so very grateful for the safe and sober roof over my head that you provided while I worked on myself. Today I know that I'm a Woman of Worth and I deserve to be happy and that I am a good mother.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for believing in me. You have inspired me to help other women and to continue in my recovery as a strong, independent woman. I have myself back and believe that my life goals are now possible.
R.B.

After being an incomplete person for the last 12 years, I now feel whole again. SHOH has taught me a new way to live. Being here has not only taught me how to live a sober life, but it taught me how to be a young woman with class and most importantly a mom. My counselor's were amazing and they helped me to build a solid foundation in my recovery Thank you for changing my life. I am grateful to you all.
S.M.
