Special Events

Pumpkin Decorating


Kickoff the Halloween Season by decorating pumpkins! This fun event is a great opportunity for families to express their creativity together.

Sign up early as this event fills up quickly. Pre-registration required.

Day: Tuesday, Oct. 8

Where: Renwood Golf Course

Cost: $1/$2 per child

Trick or Treat Trail


Trick or Treat for goodies along our trail outside the Community Center. Take a hay ride, find your way through the pumpkin maze, and take photos with special characters at this popular event. No registration required

All ages welcome (children must be accompanied by an adult)

Band Concert


Join the Round Lake Area Community Concert Band at 7:30 pm Wednesday, Oct. 9, for their FREE concert with the theme "October" and featuring "October" by Eric Whitacreces, at the Round Lake Beach Cultural and Civic Center.

Designed for children ages 6 months to 6 years, the Children's Museum is in the Rolek Community Center. The museum is open for regular hours, including free hours on Wednesdays. NEW! Kids Night In: A fun Friday night alternative for your children where they can make new friends and memories. Dinner is included. The theme for October is Scavenger Hunt/Bonfire. Ages 5-14. Friday, Oct. 11, from 6-7:30 pm. #17439.


Hot Shots: Hot Shots will offer Soccer on Mondays, Baseball on Tuesdays, Basketball on Thursdays, and Ninja Warriors on Fridays, with the next sessions starting in late October. Find a full list of classes in the Autumn Program Guide.


NFront: NFront will offer Flag Football on Sundays, Speed Training on Tuesdays and Track & Field on Thursdays with the next session starting the first week of November. Find more details in our Autumn Program Guide


RoboThink - Engine Race Cars Workshop: Ages 7-12. Sat, Oct 26, from 10-11 am. Using RoboThink's unique robotics kit, which includes motors, mainboards and sensors, kids will build and customize their own race car to use in a variety of races. This fun and educational experience is great for kids who are interested in robotics and engineering. No experience necessary. #17437.


RoboThink - Amusement Park Tycoon: Ages 7-12. Mondays, Nov 4 - Dec 2, from 4:30-6 pm. #17436.

Prairie Grass Nature Museum

Oak Tree Identification: Ages 12+ 10 am Oct. 5. Learn from Sarah Schultz, Lake County Forest Preserve Steward, how to identify the different kinds of Oaks and what makes this species so special. You will learn how to read a plant key to identify oaks, then try your skill by looking right at the trees. Each participant will receive a 4-page plant key, Common Oaks of the Chicago Region. After a break, participants can hike the park to participate in a tree ID hike. FREE. #17947

Kayak & Paddleboard Rentals


Our self-serve watercraft stations with kayaks, tandem kayaks, and stand-up paddle boards are open through Oct. 31, 2024 at Huebner Shores Park, 1331 Round Lake Drive, Round Lake Beach, and Lakefront Park, 1019 N Lake Shore Drive, Round Lake Beach. The Round Lake Area Park District requires that you must be at least 18 years old to rent and use this equipment. Anyone younger than 18 may participate if they are in a tandem kayak with someone 18 or over. PFDs are included with your rental.

Open Gym

The Sports Center offers some open soccer, basketball and volleyball hours each month. Open to those in sixth grade and older. Cost is $6 per day. Cash only. Drop-in program, no reservation required. Check the website for hours HERE. Those under 18 must have a waiver on file signed by a parent/guardian.

The Community Center offers Open Gym Basketball from 3-7 pm Wednesdays and 9-11:30 am most Saturdays at the Community Center. Cost is $6 per day. Drop-in program, no reservation required. Those under 18 must have a waiver on file signed by a parent/guardian.

Special Recreation

The Round Lake Area Park District is part of the Special Recreation Association of Central Lake County.

band

Community Band: The Round Lake Area Community Concert Band rehearses on Wed nights from 6:30-8:30 pm at the Rolek Community Center. High school-aged and up musicians are welcome to join. All concert band instruments are welcome. Register HERE

Yoga: Build your strength and flexibility in our weekly yoga class, which meets Wednesdays from 5-5:55 pm at the Community Center. Registration required. Details HERE

Nature Book Club: Ages 18+. The book for October is "A Walk in the Woods" by Bill Bryson. Thur, Oct 10, from 2-3 pm. #17397

Active Adults 50+

Bingo: Join us on Wednesdays for rounds of Bingo! Five Bingo cards are only $2. We'll play from 12:30-3 pm, We may end earlier if we run out the pot!

Senior Walking Club: M-F, 12:15-2:15 pm. Free. You must fill out a waiver on your first visit to Senior Walking. Then you will receive a membership card.

Tuesday Game Day: Join us in the Senior Center from 11 am - 1 pm Tuesdays for card games. FREE and no registration required.

Community 

Cops & Bobbers


Children, ages 5-16 years old, and their family members are invited to take part in this FREE community-building event from 9 am - 11 am Sat, Oct 5, at Lakefront Park in Round Lake Beach. Come out and enjoy a morning of fishing with officers from the Round Lake Beach Police Department!

Bring your fishing pole and favorite bait. Or, if you don’t have your own equipment, the event’s sponsor, Huebner Fishery Management, will provide rental poles and worms (free).

No registration required. However, a valid fishing license is required for those over the age of 16, per the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

There will be prizes awarded for each division!

Halloween costumes are optional but encouraged.

Parks Foundation


Join the Friends of the Round Lake Area Park District Foundation and make a tangible difference in our community. Whether you're passionate about preserving natural spaces, supporting recreational programs, or fostering community engagement, the Foundation offers numerous opportunities to get involved. Through fundraising events, volunteer initiatives, and advocacy efforts, members have the chance to contribute their time, skills, and resources toward building a stronger, more vibrant and healthy community.

Our scenic parks offer the perfect backdrop for your special event or gathering. Some parks offer a covered pavilion or picnic tables.

Need a place for your team to practice inside? Consider renting the gymnasium at the Community Center; or the indoor soccer field or gymnasium at the Sports Center.

Rent a room from the Park District for your next celebration or meeting. We have rooms for rent at the Sports Center and Community Center. The Children's Neighborhood Museum and Prairie Grass Nature Museum are also available for rentals/parties.
