JR's Weekly Column
Whenever I get really confused I turn to people I know and seek their help. And, I also do my due diligence online but, that often leads me down a rabbit hole and I come out a couple hours later as unsure as I was when I first typed in my search. This is my process. All seems pretty simple and clear doesn’t it? Online and personal resources checked and my confusion is cleared, I’ve found the remedy to my malaise. That’s the way it’s supposed to work. Not.

These are challenging times to us all and what seems clear isn’t and that’s just the way it is. That sorta worked but then came along 2020 and everything changed. The first of the year came and the expectations were high for another robust year topped by an ever-expanding economy rich with opportunity and jobs. Then it all flopped. March came and by the end of the month our world stopped as we knew it. The pandemic hit and we shut down. We all felt we had to listen to our leadership and take this serious. We basically did as told and accepted the new normal. We held the belief that this too would pass, and sooner rather than later normalcy would return, certainly by summer’s end we’d go back to business as usual.

Now it’s early October, Fall is here and we’re still dealing with this insidious pandemic. The November 3rd elections are 33 days away. Our City Council will have at least 2 new faces to get used too. A possibility that the White House could have new tenants is real. We could have new representation from our District in Washington, our District incumbent County Board of Supervisor is facing a real challenge and a slew of possible new legislation will be voted on in the form of ballot measures (which are anything but easy to understand as written). And, we’ve got a full quarter of 2020 remaining. With the way things are going it might be prudent to keep your seat belt on, we’re not through yet!

It’s not too late to join the Chamber as we kick off the 1st of our 4-part Candidate Forum this evening at 6pm. First up is our two candidate’s vying for the 50th District representation in Congress as Ammar Campa-Najjar and Darrell Issa will be live via Zoom answering questions and letting us know why they should be your choice on November 3rd. Here’s a link to register or go to the Chamber website and register now.

Tomorrow night we’ll conduct our Escondido City Council Candidate Forum at the same time, 6pm, and while you’re registering for tonight please go ahead and register for all of the Forums.

It’s crunch time for the candidates and it’s our obligation to vote.

Sincerely,

James Rowten (JR)
