FROM THE MASSACHUSETTS LEGISLATURE

Hull Resident Honored at Military Appreciation Day

Just before Memorial Day, the Office of Veteran Affairs hosted Military Appreciation Day to honor our servicemen and women who make the Commonwealth a stronger place to call home. I nominated Andrew Wohar from Hull for a life dedicated to service both as a member of the U.S. Coast Guard and through his commitment to uplifting the Veteran community. Throughout the month of May and every day, we remember the sacrifices of our men and women in uniform.

Joint Committee Hearings Are Underway

Throughout the month, joint committees have been busy holding hearings on the hundreds of bills before them. I have both listened to testimony in my capacity as a committee member and testified on a number of my own bills before committees. This is a unique opportunity for residents to advocate for the bills about which they are passionate by testifying before committees, and I always appreciate the thoughtful remarks from perspectives across the Commonwealth. You can learn more about the slate of legislation I have filed here.

House of Representatives Passes FY26 Budget

After several long nights of debate, the House passed its version of the FY26 budget at the end of April. The final House budget was $61.47 billion, which is approximately $500 million less than the Governor’s proposed FY26 budget. Shortly after the House finished its budget process, the Senate passed its own version. Next, a conference committee will convene to negotiate a final budget, based on the House and Senate versions, which will be finalized in June.

IN THE DISTRICT

See Plymouth Hosts Legislative Breakfast

See Plymouth uplifts the economy across Plymouth County, attracts visitors, supports local businesses, and facilitates events. This month, they held a legislative breakfast for local leaders to discuss opportunities in the coming year. As Revolution 250 celebrations begin in earnest, it was energizing to see how regional and local leaders are telling their town’s stories and attracting tourism.

Rep. Meschino Attends Reenactment of the Battle of Grape Island

The Hingham Historical Society kicked off commemorations of our state's 250th anniversary with a weekend full of well-attended events. We celebrated 250 years since the Hingham Militia Company and other South Shore militia stopped the British from receiving supplies from Hingham Loyalist Elijah Leavitt’s Grape Island. Watching the reenactment, I was struck by the courage these men had in the face of danger. I look forward to the continued celebrations as we reflect on the history of our state and nation.

Rep. Meschino and Staff Visit 3rd Plymouth District

In early May, my staff and I visited the Cohasset Center for Student Coastal Research (CSCR) and the South Shore Arts Center (SSAC). It was wonderful to see the impact that CSCR and SSAC have in uplifting the community and engaging youth to cultivate creativity and a passion for the arts and sciences. Thank you for welcoming us and for all you do!
