The Power Reading genre for the month of October is
BIOGRAPHY or AUTO-BIOGRAPHY
Students will costume as the person about whom the book was written on Literary Character Day:

The project for this month is to make a prop for their costumed character.
Parents, if your child is young, they may need a little assistance from you because it must be student-made. Someone dressing as Jim Henson might make a paper bag puppet of Kermit the Frog. Each student should decide on the prop and begin to plan how to construct it this week.
In the morning, students will play "20 Questions" to determine the identity of their costumed classmates.
TREATS: Parents, if you send treats, they should be individually or commercially wrapped. Also, because this is a NUT-FREE school year, please avoid peanuts & tree nuts and carefully read the ingredients of commercially prepared items to avoid these ingredients.
Teachers would be grateful if you also limit sugar and food dyes since several students are sensitive to those ingredients as well.
At NOON, students will take a walk through the "Scarecrows in the Park" and have an early lunch in Kellogg Park if it is not raining.
In the AFTERNOON, students will go ICE-SKATING at the Plymouth Cultural Center Ice Rink (right behind the running track) for their Open Skate session.
Parents, please send a bike helmet or hockey helmet with your child on this day. Also send outerwear because it is quite chilly on the ice -- snowpants & mittens/gloves are recommended!
