Dear El Sol Family,
What an unbelievable two weeks it has been! Our world is experiencing an event of such magnitude that it can feel overwhelming. I am so grateful that we have such an amazing school community from which we can derive real support, strength and still, learning. I received an email from former El Sol teacher Mr. Cobos who retired and moved to Spain. He wrote, “
thinking of all the students and families in the El Sol community….and how hard it must be. Hang in there and the brightest hope, as always, lies within the students and the teachers that continue to foster that hope. Stay not only well, but strong...”
I join Mr. Cobos in uplifting our students, our families, our teachers and all of our staff.
As we enter our third week of school closure, I’d like to offer you some updates and next steps.
Updates and Next Steps:
Consistent with a recent decision announced by the SAUSD, El Sol will extend its tentative return date to
May 4, 2020
. We will continue to monitor the situation and make further decisions based on guidelines set forth by county, state and federal authorities.
As a reminder, Spring Break is April 6 – 10
th
.
We continue to survey our families so that we can distribute the technology necessary to implement our distance learning. School staff will be in touch with families to make sure that we know your needs and arrange to meet them.
Breakfast and lunch are being provided Monday through Friday and the El Sol Mercado continues to operate. We are working with our partners to provide additional meal options and will be in touch with you all soon.
Your teachers are working with our support staff to make sure that you have all of the resources you need to continue the learning process. All families should be in touch with your child’s teacher/s. If you need help with that, please call the office or Sara Flores at (714) 975-0544 for assistance.
The SOS/El Sol Wellness Center is still open and available for families who do not have a medical home.
There are so many people from our school community that have done amazing work in a short period of time and I am so proud of our teachers, our staff and our families.
Please continue to follow all of the guidelines set forth by our public health officials. We want everyone to be well. We are anxious to return to school healthy and ready to learn.
Sincerely,
Monique Daviss

Mantente no solo bien, sino fuerte ...”

Sinceramente,
Monique Daviss

Items of Interest for the Santa Ana Community
|
1) The Santa Ana City Council declared a local emergency for the COVID-19 crisis on Tuesday, March 17, and City Manager Kristine Ridge is taking actions to protect the public. City Hall and all other City buildings are closed to the public until further notice, including libraries, community centers and the Santa Ana Zoo. All skate parks operated by the City of Santa Ana are temporarily closed to the public beginning on Wednesday, March 25. Parks remain open but the public is urged to avoid congregating in groups and maintain social distancing.
Some City employees who provide non-essential services have been sent home, but essential City services continue to operate, including Police and Fire emergency services, graffiti removal, tree trimming, street repairs, trash collection, street sweeping and utility billing, among others. City staff are currently still working at City Hall and can be reached by phone and email for essential services.
3) The City of Santa Ana has enacted a moratorium on all residential and commercial foreclosures and evictions for non-payment of rent for anyone who is unable to pay due to financial impacts related to COVID-19. The Santa Ana City Council unanimously authorized in the proclamation of local emergency. City Manager Kristine Ridge signed the executive order on Thursday, March 19, and it immediately went into effect.
4) Street sweeping parking citations have been suspended in Santa Ana under the proclamation of local emergency. ONLY street sweeping tickets are not being issued. All other City parking fees, rules and citations remain in place, including residential permit parking.
The street sweeping ticket suspension is retroactive to Sunday, March 15, so no street sweeping tickets received from that date need to be paid. The suspension will remain in place through March 31.
