the BUZZ Parking Gate safety- How to be compliant with safety laws Parking gate access control systems increase security for many businesses but as a byproduct of moving mechanical parts, people can get hurt and vehicles get damaged. in most instances, the gate system has not malfunctioned and a more likely cause can be vehicles that tailgate too closely or someone riding a bike behind a car that has crossed the “closing” loop. Signage to warn pedestrians and investing in a quality gate system will help to reduce the risk, but you really need a properly designed system with safety devices that are specified in the Underwriter Laboratories (UL) 325 rules. New safety related rules went into effect in January of 2016 . I2 Security always follows UL 325 guidelines with new gate systems but what if your system was installed prior to the new UL 325 safety laws?   UL 325 requires that all swing & slide gate operator systems must have two independent safety entrapment protection devices installed to stop the operator from working if they’re not functioning properly . Entrapment protection is not required for barrier arm gates as long as the arm is at least two feet from a rigid object, provided there are no pinch points between moving parts. You should have a safety edge sensor on the leading edge of the barrier gate and photo eyes covering the gate opening areas. CUSTOMER SPOTLIGHT

The Glen Mills School is a residential education facility for troubled youth and is located in Glen Mills, Pa. i2 Security Solutions has been working with Glen Mills to upgrade and replace outdated security systems over the past year. A manual guard tour system was no longer sufficient for use and the school wanted a way to monitor certain access control events and in a second phase, add video surveillance to select areas. To accomplish these goals and allow for future growth,we installed Lenel's OnGuard system. The OnGuard command center now communicates with card readers and alarm inputs at all controlled access door locations. Most of the schools existing door hardware was reused, keeping costs down and enabling the installation to be completed quickly and within the customers desired timeline.

AND... Mid-Atlantic Social Security Center in Philadelphia This project included providing a replacement gate system for two entrance/exit locations at the SSA Center. Access into the parking areas would be accomplished by reusing existing proximity access badges and then providing card readers that were compatible with and could be programmed into SSA’s Lenel OnGuard System

Tips: Why Carrying manufacturer Software Upgrade and Support Plans   is a good idea I2 Security Solutions offers many different types of after warranty maintenance programs for our customers. In addition to these programs, most software manufacturers also provide a maintenance plan that provides coverage for future releases, updates within the current version, issues with your application database and support for 3 rd party integrations. It’s important to note that while purchasing these maintenance plans are optional, failure to carry them could be very costly should you need support that requires their services as well as ours . Most manufacturers today require you to go through the upgrade paths missed before they will address your issue.
