From the President ...
We are celebrating Pesach, and the azaleas are starting to bloom - proof positive that Spring is here! Could life be returning to normal, whatever that means? We all certainly hope so. When it comes to COVID, it’s important not to relax too much. However, given the loosening of restrictions in our state and the high rate of vaccinations in our membership, Bnai Israel is taking the first step towards resuming some of our usual activities.
We will partially open for services beginning this weekend. We are allowing up to 25 members to attend services on Friday, Saturday and Sunday this weekend. You must sign up in advance with this link:

Signing up allows us to limit our numbers without turning anyone away at the door; allows us to have a record of attendees in case of a COVID outbreak; and allows us to be fair and equitable to our members. If all slots for a Friday or Saturday service is full, you will get priority for the following week. Our main goal is to keep everyone safe as we navigate this “new normal” of gathering in person. There are risks in most activities and only you can decide if you are comfortable with joining us in person.
For those not ready to attend services in person yet, we will continue to have all services on ZOOM. In addition, all of our programs will still be on ZOOM, including our Semi-Annual meeting on April 18th.
As the COVID statistics in our state and region change, so will we. As soon as it is advisable, we will modify our reopening further. I want to thank our Reopening Committee: Dr. Scott Johnson, Alane Savod, Margery Jordan, Steve Stein and myself for taking on this very important task of keeping Bnai Israel as safe as possible.
I would be remiss if I didn’t give a loud and enthusiastic “Yasher Koach” to Rav Waxman for leading Bnai Israel’s virtual 1st night Seder last Saturday evening. It was great fun, great food (Thank you, Barbara) and amazing music (Thank you, Rav, Rich and Dan Waxman).
Stay Safe, Shabbat Shalom & Chag Pesach Sameach,

We know about the Nazis and their concentration camps. What happened to those suddenly set free? One of those was Reba Alper's mother, Bronia. Reba was born in a displaced persons camp. Now it is Reba and Jonny's turn to talk about their experiences. If there is time, feel free to ask Reba or Jonny any questions that pertain to the subject matter.

Putting Out
Welcome Mat
The Board of Directors is currently working on a project we are calling Open Door. The goal of this project is to make our synagogue an inviting and welcoming spiritual home for all Jews, including those in interfaith marriages or partnerships and those who are raising children in an interfaith home.

The Conservative movement has been supporting this effort among member synagogues, and it is essential for us to begin this work in order to remain a growing and active Jewish community now and in the future.

In February our initial discussion group was held with several members in interfaith marriages to determine if there is an interest in or need for this project. The answer was a resounding “Yes”. We’d now like to involve other Bnai Israel members whose families include persons of another faith, those who are raising Jewish children and those who have grandchildren who are being raised Jewish (or not) in mixed faith homes.

Our next discussion group will be held on Wednesday April 14th, 7:00-8:00 pm via Zoom. Board member Rena Goldwasser will moderate. The groups will be limited to 10 participants per session and we will hold additional sessions as needed.

Please contact Rena at 960-490-0916 via text or phone, or email at simplythebest53@yahoo.com to sign up. You will be sent a Zoom link on the day of the event.
