April is Autism Awareness Acceptance Month...
In April we celebrate Autism Awareness Acceptance Month, and World Autism Day on April 2, 2025. If you have autism or love someone with autism, join us to help increase understanding and acceptance of people with autism.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a complex, lifelong developmental condition that typically appears during early childhood and can impact a person’s social skills, communication, relationships, and self-regulation. A person with autism may also suffer from medical issues such as gastrointestinal (GI) disorders, seizures or sleep disorders, as well as mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression and attention issues.
The autism experience is different for everyone. It is called a “spectrum” because it affects people differently and to varying degrees. According to the CDC, autism has risen to 1 in every 44 children as of 2021. While there is currently no known single cause of autism, early diagnosis and intervention helps a person receive services and support that can improve their quality of life and provide the opportunity to live fully.
For more information, please visit helpful websites such as The Autism Society and Autism Speaks . If you suspect your child may have autism, please contact your local Regional Center and/or Family Focus Resource Center.
