From the Minister
Dear Unity Family,
Henry David Thoreau asked the question, “Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other’s eyes for an instant?” Well, from a spiritual perspective we certainly want to believe that we do!
Former first lady, Michelle Obama, seems to have hit the proverbial nail on the head this week when she reminded us in her DNC speech that we require
empathy from one another. And more importantly, what it looks like when we don’t—especially through the eyes of our children.
After all, empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another. If you’d like to know more about how to create a genuine empathic connection, watch this beautifully animated short (less than 3 minutes!) narrated by Dr. Brené Brown.
|
|
One of the ways we can be more empathic with each other is to heighten our awareness of what others are going through. I came across this prayer the other day and I want to share it with you.
Prayer for a Pandemic
May we who are merely inconvenienced
remember those whose lives are at stake.
May we who have no risk factors
remember those most vulnerable.
May we who have the luxury of working from home
remember those who must choose between
preserving their health or making their rent.
May we who have the flexibility to care for our
children when their schools close
remember those who have no options.
May we who have to cancel our trips
remember those that have no safe place to go.
May we who are losing our margin money
in the tumult of the economic market
remember those who have no margin at all.
As fear grips our country, let us choose love.
During this time when we cannot physically
wrap our arms around each other,
let us yet find ways to be the loving
embrace of God to our neighbors.
Amen.
There is so much going on in the world right now that can seem overwhelming. But let us remember… Peace. Be still. Why? Because we are the very hands, feet, and breath of God.
There is much for which to be hopeful. We are the ones.
In Love and Unity,
Rev. Anne Tabor

Anne as she explores how we can follow the teachings of Jesus to “go and do likewise.”

Treasurer's Report as of 7/31/2020
Gross Revenue $131,478.73
Net Income $ 2,332.04
Unity of Arlington recently applied for and received a PPP loan from the government stimulus program in the amount of $19,900. At this time it is still considered a loan from the government. If we are able to get loan forgiveness, which we are fully expecting to accomplish, then it will no longer be considered a loan but a gift that does not need to be repaid. We will keep you posted as to the current status of these funds.

Dark Matters
The experience of light and dark is a part of every human journey, to one degree or another. Our culture teaches us to fear the experience of the dark, especially that inner darkness which is our shadow self.
However, if we are willing to step through our fear, we can learn to accept the darkness, to engage it in dialogue, and use it as a tool for our spiritual growth. We learn that true spiritual wholeness is not a denial of the dark side of ourselves but rather an embracing of both our inner light and our inner shadow into an integrated, healthy, transcendent whole.

The U.S. Census Bureau Plans to End Counting a Month Earlier Than Planned
In the United States, by law, a census must be conducted every 10 years and turned in to the president by Dec. 31 of the census year. The Census Bureau gathers much of its data from self-reporting. It then sends field enumerators to knock on doors of the households that have not yet replied. The follow-up is considered essential to reach people who are often missed in every census, including renters, low-income families, people with disabilities and rural inhabitants
When the pandemic hit earlier this year, the Census Bureau asked for more time to produce the population count. The bureau, with the blessing of Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, altered the tentative schedule and planned to continue field activities until Oct. 31. But last week, the bureau reversed course and announced the deadline for data collection would be Sept. 30 to submit results by the Dec. 31 deadline.
If you have not yet filled out the 2020 Census, you will be glad to know you can do so online. To access a YouTube video on how to do so, click HERE.

UNITY'S FIVE BASIC PRINCIPLES
Principle #1:
There is only one Presence and one Power in the Universe and in my life, God the Good.
Principle #2:
Human beings have a spark of divinity within them, the Christ spirit within.
Their essence is of God, and therefore they are also inherently good.
Principle #3:
Human beings create their experiences by the activity of their thinking.
Everything in the manifest realm has its beginning in thought.
Principle #4:
Prayer is creative thinking that heightens the connection with God Mind and therefore brings forth wisdom, healing, prosperity, and everything good.
Principle #5:
Knowing and understanding the laws of life, also called Truth, are not enough.
A person must live the truth he or she knows.
|
CORE VALUES
Spirit-Led:
Centered in the awareness of God's presence, we turn within for divine guidance in
all we do.
Love:
Love is our True Nature. We express the harmonizing power of love to see good everywhere and in everybody. Love binds together the whole human family.
Diversity:
We believe that all people are created with sacred worth. In a spirit of Unity, we embrace each person as an expression of God grounded in truth and love.
Connection:
We live, love, and laugh from our Oneness with God. We honor our inter-connectedness with each other, with all life, and the earth.
Abundance:
God is our Infinite Source of Good. We gratefully demonstrate prosperity in all areas
of our lives. We wisely use our wealth of resources to serve our spiritual community and the world.
Service:
We cultivate enlightened leadership by practicing the teachings of Jesus the Christ through sacred service. It is a blessing to serve locally and globally.
Integrity:
We consciously choose to practice living our Core Values and Unity Principles rather than simply professing them. We choose to communicate from the heart with authenticity and deliver on our commitments with reliability.
