Prelude

Call to Worship
Hosanna!
Praise the Savior, Jesus, who rides not a warhorse, but a colt of peace. Praise to our teacher who comes our way with the gospel of solidarity.
Hosanna!
Save us from the ways of destruction, Living Christ!
Save our spirits from being sunk by war, loss, and evil!
Hosanna!
Praise the Holy who comes in the name of Righteous Peace!
Praise the Holy who comes in the name of Radical Love!

Hymn of Preparation     All Glory, Laud and Honor   280 UMH

Confession
Forgive us O God of love for not waging peace,
for not acknowledging faith,
not declaring love,
not confessing failure,
not exposing injustice,
not admitting mistakes.
Forgive us O God for not waging peace,
not relinquishing control to you and your way,
For holding tight to our biases,
For not noticing those who sit at a distance, nervous to engage.
For keeping our minds closed and for assuming we have You figured out.
Help us to ease other’s stress,
Help us make amends.
Help us seek forgiveness and help us offer forgiveness.
Forgive us for not letting go of blame.

Words of Forgiveness
Family of God,
You are forgiven! In the name of Jesus, you are forgiven!
In the name of Jesus, you are forgiven!
May living peace inspire us
resting peace refresh us
growing peace support us
abiding peace relieve us
quietness reveal us
harmony restore us
to wage incessant peace.

Sermon

Response to the Word: Affirmation of Faith
We are not alone, we live in God’s world.
We believe in God:
who has created and is creating,
who has come in Jesus, the Word made flesh,
to reconcile and make new,
who works in us and others by the Spirit.
We trust in God.
We are called to be the church:
to celebrate God’s presence,
to love and serve others,
To seek justice and resist evil,
To proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen,
Our judge and our hope.
In life, in death, in life beyond death,
God is with us.
We are not alone.
Thanks be to God.

Invitation to Offering
Remind folks that we are taking up another special offering for folks assisting refugees from Ukraine. The checks can be made out to CUMC but please write, “UMCOR or Ukraine” on the memo line. Gifts can also be placed in offering envelopes and noted if they are for UMCOR or CUMC.

We come with curiosity about how we can be part of each other’s stories of salvation. Through subverting, organizing, and reciprocity, we long to create Ways of Life. Let us bring forth our gifts that we might offer ordinary acts of salvation to each other.

Offertory

Doxology    Praise God, From Whom All Blessings Flow  95 UMH

Prayer of Dedication
Subverting God, the logic of empire wants us to believe that we are each
other’s enemies and that we need to shore up what is ours. Reveal to us
the wisdom of your ways, that we might offer one another compassion
and resources. Bless our offerings to the redemption found in solidarity.

Invitation to Communion
When we turn our feet toward home,
God runs to us and embraces us, full of compassion,
inviting us to eat at Christ’s table and celebrate the joyful feast.
Trusting such boundless hospitality and steadfast love.
You are invited!

THE GREAT THANKSGIVING
God be with you.
God is with us! We are not alone.
Christ be with you.
Christ is with us!
The Risen One has met us,
blessed and fed us
on the road that leads us home.
What is the promise?
Be we few or many, the Comforter will come.
Then lift up your hearts!
Our hearts with rapture thrill!
Here we assemble as your family.
We are your people and you are our God.
Your love makes us friends;
your blood makes us kin.
Holy one, Trinity of grace an power:
it is good; it is right; it is a joyful thing to give you thanks,
Maker and Mother; Beloved and Lover, Father and Friend.
You are ever the father who gives bread, not stones.
You are ever the mother who never forgets we’re her own.
From the beginning of life to the closing of time,
you are the One who is with us to the end.
And so we say:
Salvation, glory and power to God
for Jesus, the forgiver of our sins, reigns;
The mountains, hills, and valleys sing
as angels, saints, and heavens proclaim:
Hallelujah, Hallelujah!
Salvation, glory and power to God
for Jesus, the forgiver of sins, reigns.
Holy are you and blessed is your Beloved, Jesus, meek and wild.
By his birth, his baptism into life, death and glory,
Christ redeemed us from sin, and restored creation’s story.
Truly human, whole and holy, he gave us grace,
showed us truth, and taught us what forgiveness means.
We remember the night Jesus gave himself to us.
We remember, we will never forget.
He took bread and gave thanks.
We remember, we will never forget.
He gave it to his friends:
This is my body.
Take. Eat. Share. Remember.
We remember, we will never forget.
He took the cup and gave thanks.
We remember, we will never forget.
He gave it to his friends:
This is the new covenant, made for you.
Take. Drink. Live. Remember.
Oh how we remember!
We remember the Gift you’ve given,
and offer ourselves to you as Christ offers himself to us,
a whole and holy sacrifice of prayer and praise.
In the name of your Beloved, we proclaim the mastery of the faith:
What wondrous love is this, O my soul, O my soul,
what wondrous love is this, O my soul!
What wondrous love is that that caused the Lord of life
to lay aside his crown for my soul, for my soul,
to lay aside his crown for my soul.
To God and to the Lamb I will sing, I will sing,
to God and to the Lamb I will sing!
To God and to the Lamb who is the great I AM,
while millions join the theme I will sing, I will sing,
while millions join the theme I will sing!
Breathe, Holy Spirit!
Breathe, Holy Spirit!
Breathe on this bread and cup.
Breathe on us gathered here,
and all in your keeping.
Breathe peace, Jesus.
Breathe, Holy Spirit!
By your Spirit, make us one with Christ,
one with each other,
and one in ministry to all the world,
until Christ comes again in grace and glory,
Then lost in wonder, love, and praise,
we and all creation sing for joy:
Praise God from whom all blessings flow.
Praise God, all creatures here below.
Praise God, blest holy Trinity
both now and for eternity. Amen

THE LORD’ S PRAYER
And now with the confidence of the forgiven family of God let us pray...
Our father, who art...
