FEBRUARY 29TH IS:

RARE DISEASE DAY

Rare Disease Day is the globally-coordinated movement on rare diseases, working towards equity in social opportunity, healthcare, and access to diagnosis and therapies for people living with a rare disease. A disease is considered rare when it affects fewer than 1 in 12,000 people.

Since its creation in 2008, Rare Disease Day has played a critical part in building an international rare disease community that is multi-disease, global, and diverse– but united in purpose.

DÍA DE LAS ENFERMEDADES RARAS

El Día de las Enfermedades Raras es el movimiento coordinado a nivel mundial sobre enfermedades raras, que trabaja por la equidad en las oportunidades sociales, la atención médica y el acceso a diagnósticos y terapias para las personas que viven con una enfermedad rara. Una enfermedad se considera rara cuando afecta a menos de 1 de cada 12.000 personas.

Desde su creación en 2008, el Día de las Enfermedades Raras ha jugado un papel fundamental en la construcción de una comunidad internacional de enfermedades raras que es multienfermedad, global y diversa, pero unida en un propósito.

Coffee & Conversation / Café y Conversación

February 1, 2024 / 1 de Febrero, 2024

10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Join other parents in-person at our Chatsworth, Santa Clarita, or Antelope Valley offices for this fun Coffee & Conversation where we will discuss ways to have a Healthy Heart! Let's talk about how we take care of our heart health, and we will be creating a fun Valentines heart activity together. You will also have the opportunity to take a craft home to make with your loved ones. Snacks and refreshments will be served.

We will be meeting from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the FFRC offices at NLACRC offices in Chatsworth, Santa Clarita, and Antelope Valley.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THERESA QUARY

Happy birthday to Theresa, our Outreach Specialist.

Theresa likes to celebrate her birthday ALL month long. And since this year is a leap year, that is one more day to celebrate.

If Theresa can't travel then Burke WIlliams Spa is her favorite place to be on her special day!

Say Happy Birthday to Noli, our Administrative Assistant.

Noli likes to celebrate her birthday with friends and family. Her husband and her two boys will jump start the celebrating with breakfast in bed and dinner out.

HOLIDAY CELEBRATION

The Family Focus Resource Center Staff took a morning off to celebrate the holiday season at Egg Planation in Newhall. We played some team building games and ate a delicious breakfast. We are all refreshed for the new year.

LIFE AFTER HIGH SCHOOL AT LOWMAN

Tim Carter and Fatima Castaneda, our Family Support Providers represented Family Focus Resource Center at Lowman Career Transition Center for a Life After High School Fair. There they met with many wonderful families and shared many resources.

ANTELOPE VALLEY SELPA SPECIAL EDUCATION SEMINAR

Our own Lorena Salgado recently attended the Antelope Valley SELPA Special Education Seminar where she learned how to better help and direct parents.

Lorena garnered information on IEP's, the importance of IDEA (Individual with Disabilities Education Act) and FAPE(Free and Public Education)
