It has been said, “A promise is only as good as the authority, ability, and character of the one making the promise.” Any human is apt at times, to falter and be unable to fulfill promises made. Many who have good intentions simply lack the authority or ability to deliver on promises made in good faith. Others, make promises for dubious reasons, lacking the moral character to seriously attempt to deliver on what was promised. God on the other hand always keeps his promises. We can be confident in believing the promises of God because they are based on who God is. As sovereign of all, he has the unrestricted right to do anything that is in accordance with his nature and will. Further, he is unlimited in his ability/power to act to fulfill his word. Finally, God is holy. His integrity is absolute. Holiness is not just what he does, holiness is one of the essentials of his character and nature.  This is why Romans 3:3-4 says, “3 What if some were unfaithful? Will their unfaithfulness nullify God’s faithfulness? 4 Not at all! Let God be true, and every human being a liar…”

Many times, as we face difficulties and challenging situations we are left with the choice, do I trust God and his promises, or do I look for another way. At a glance it may seem more difficult to trust God, but the reality is that our attempts to bypass waiting on God and his promises to be fulfilled lead to a downward spiral of trouble, heartache, and woe. In the Biblical account of Abram and Sarai we know that God had promised the childless couple that they would have a child. As time passed, desire grew, but there was no sign of fulfillment of this promise. Sarai began to doubt and look for a way to help God with his promise. She suggested to Abram that he take her much younger servant as another wife and produce a child with her. Abram with equal doubt accepted Sarai’s offer and took Hagar to be his wife. In short time she did conceive and give birth to a son, Ishmael. Not deterred by Abram and Sarai’s doubt and attempts to help him out, God was true and faithful to his promise and Sarai miraculously conceived. In due time she gave birth to the son of promise, Isaac. From the earliest days of their lives, however, there was conflict between Ishmael and Isaac, and between Sarai and Hagar. Much of the current conflict between Israel and the surrounding nations can be traced back to this situation. Had Abram and Sarai been patient and waited on the Lord to fulfill his promise their lives and our world would have been a much better.

In the time between the promise being given and the promise being fulfilled we must learn to simply trust and wait (wait as in serve) the Lord. Regardless of what we see, hear, or feel, regardless of what we do not see, hear, or feel, we must continue to steadfastly trust and serve (wait) on the Lord. When we trust and wait, we will be blessed and God will be honored. Whatever promise you are longing to have fulfilled today, I pray with you for strength and patience as you trust and wait. I also remind you of Joshua 21:45, “45 Not one of all the Lord’s good promises to Israel failed; everyone was fulfilled.”

We love you and are praying for you.

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” — Galatians 6:9 (NIV)

In life, there are seasons when we feel overwhelmed, tired, and burned out. Whether it’s serving in ministry, balancing work and family, or simply navigating the ups and downs of daily life, exhaustion can creep in. When we feel this way, it’s easy to consider stepping back or even giving up. But the Bible reminds us that we are not alone in these moments. God promises strength to the weary and encouragement to those who continue to press forward.

Aloha from the Hawaii Youth & Discipleship Department

Just as a farmer waits patiently for the harvest, we, too, must trust God with the timing of the blessings He has prepared for us. Burnout doesn’t mean you’re failing; it’s an opportunity to rely more fully on His grace. Remember, even Jesus took time to rest and be refreshed in the presence of His Father. When we feel like we can’t go on, it’s time to lean into God’s presence and allow Him to renew our strength.

So, stay the course. Keep doing good, keep serving, and keep trusting that God is working behind the scenes. At the right time, we will reap a harvest—not because of our own strength, but because of His faithfulness.

Let’s hold on to the promise of Galatians 6:9 and press on, knowing that God’s perfect timing will bring forth fruit in our lives.

Shout-out to everyone who made our car wash a huge success! We raised $1,607 from the car wash and bake sale—a great start toward our goal of $21,000 to keep the youth camp cost at $150 per camper.

A big mahalo to Jesus Is Alive for hosting our second Rally Rally. Bro. Alan, Pastor Glenn, and their amazing youth and worship team did an outstanding job. Mark your calendars—the next Rally Rally will be at Maili Church of God on November 15th. We look forward to seeing you there!

Mama Z enroute on the Handivan. As she goes, she shares Jesus with all.

Mama Z on one of her many travels on Oahu.

#WeGO

#SheGo!

Zella Hawthorne A.K.A Mama Z has been a proud member of Newtown COG for 46 years, and she's not afraid to let anyone who will listen know.

Decked in her witness wear, she redeems the time on her public transportation ride to share about the love of Jesus. One can hardly notice the bedazzled blouse or t-shirt, because this great-grandmother never leaves home without her dazzling smile. Her joy exudes in a way that is both overwhelming and enticing. Mama Z is as excited to share the ride with those along the way as she is to get to her destination.

As she has gotten up there in age, it takes a little longer for her to get around. However, she will not miss a Sunday service. Every Sunday, she gets picked up by the handivan and brought to church. On her ride, you can guarantee she greets everyone as they get on the van. Anyone getting off the van before her, she tells them to have a blessed day. All get a testimony of God's unfailing love and how faithful he has been to her over the years.

You can also guarantee she will let people know that she has been at Newtown for 46 years, she has 2 children that are ministers for the COG, she has an awesome pastor and family, our praise and worship team is amazing and range from adults down to a 1 year old.

If there is one thing you can't deny is that Mama Z loves God, her Church and her church family. She will share with anyone who listens and will get to church whether by regular bus or the handivan every Sunday that our Lord gives her.

Hawaii CoG Mission's Blitz Projects Continue

A "quick" door change for the church entry and restrooms equated to a quick change of plans. Termite damage caused the walls to fall once the frames were removed.

Most of the front wall of the church was completely destroyed by termites. The replaced wall is set off by a rock face.

Pastor Brian and volunteers worked relentlessly to make sure the renting churches had working restroom facilities for Sunday service.

The living quarters are remodeled. The floors are being installed.
