October 2025

Aloha from the Church of God State Office.

At the 2024 International General Assembly, our newly elected General Overseer, Dr. Gary Lewis, stepped to the pulpit and boldly proclaimed: We Are the Church of God. His declaration ignited the gathered crowd and has continued to reverberate throughout our movement ever since. The power of that statement lies in its simplicity and truth.

We are the Church of God:

We Go. We Preach. We Disciple. We Care. We Pray.

The Church of God is more than a crowd gathered in one place—or even crowds gathered across the globe. We are a vital part of the Body of Christ on planet earth in these last days. We are not merely a building people enter; we are a vibrant movement of Christ-followers who are going—into homes, communities, workplaces, markets, and beyond… to the ends of the earth.

•  As we go, we Preach the good news: Jesus Christ came to seek and save the lost, paying the ultimate price for our salvation.

•  As we go, we Disciple those who believe. We welcome them into God’s great big family and teach them what it means to follow Jesus. We walk with them, and as they mature, we release them to carry the mission forward.

•  As we go, we Care for those we encounter. We feed the hungry, clothe the destitute, rescue the orphan, visit the prisoner, assist the sick, and meet the needs of the needy.

•  As we go, we Pray. We remember that our church was born in prayer, has grown through prayer, and is still empowered by God through prayer. We pray together, we pray with others, and we pray alone to commune with God. We know that without prayer we can do nothing—but with prayer, there is nothing we cannot do. So, we pray.

Candie and I are so thankful you are part of this great Church of God family. We love you and are believing God that as you Go, Preach, Disciple, Care, and Pray, you will see miracles happen and lives changed.

Be encouraged: what you do as you go matters.

What you are doing as you go is making a difference.

Blessings,

Bishop J. Rob Taylor

Aloha from the Hawaii Youth & Discipleship Department

“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”

— Proverbs 22:6

Let’s be real — investing in youth ministry can sometimes feel like herding caffeinated cats who just discovered TikTok. But despite the chaos, the awkward voice cracks, and the group chats that blow up at 2 a.m., it’s absolutely worth it

Every teen is a sermon in sneakers, a miracle in motion, a walking testimony waiting to happen. And when you pour into them — even when they seem more interested in memes than ministry — you are planting seeds that will bear fruit long after they leave youth group pizza night

Yes, they may forget their Bibles but never their phone charger. Yes, they’ll ask deep spiritual questions like, “Is Uno biblical?” And yes, you’ll probably lose your voice more times than you can count. But here’s the truth: this generation is hungry for real, raw, Spirit-filled encounters — they just need someone to show them it’s not only possible, it’s personal

Jesus didn’t wait for people to be polished. He picked fishermen, tax collectors, and probably a couple guys who would’ve gotten sent to the principal’s office every day. So don’t wait for perfection — pour into them now. Speak life, show up, be consistent, and watch God do what only He can do

PROJECT UPDATES

The Bride Church of God – Wailuku, Maui

The remodel is complete and we’re thrilled to announce the Dedication Service will be held on Sunday, October 26th

What was once a worn-down, overlooked church building has now been filled with new life — a reminder that God still restores what once looked ruined. He is faithful!

Lahaina Church of God with ICG

Construction is still moving forward on the Lahaina building. What the fire tried to destroy, God is rebuilding for His glory. We believe this site will become a lighthouse of hope for West Maui.

Truth Seekers, Truth Speakers

“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

— John 8:32 (NIV)

Evangelism isn’t just about having the right words — it’s about living a life that matches them.

We live in a world full of noise — opinions, agendas, and “truths” that change with the culture. But as believers, we are called to be truth seekers and truth speakers — not just in what we say, but in how we live.

People aren’t just listening to our sermons — they’re watching our attitudes, our actions, and our responses. You can tell someone about Jesus all day long, but if your life doesn’t line up with His heart, your words will fall flat.

So here’s the question we all must ask:

Does what’s coming out of our mouth match how we live when no one’s looking?

Evangelism begins with integrity. It begins with consistency. And it begins when people can see Jesus in us before we ever say His name.

Challenge: Step Into It

This month, let’s not just believe in evangelism — let’s live it out. Here are simple, intentional ways to make a real impact:

Reach out to five people this month — a friend, coworker, classmate, or even someone you haven’t spoken to in a while. Check in, offer encouragement, and be a light.

Before you say grace while dining out, ask your server:

“Hey, we’re about to pray over our meal — is there anything we can pray for you about?”

You’d be surprised how many people open up right there at the table.

Speak life in public spaces — compliment someone’s work ethic, tell a parent they’re doing a great job, or encourage a cashier who looks stressed. Kindness breaks down walls.

Offer to pray for someone — in the moment, not “later.” Whether it’s at church, on the street, or at the gym — if someone shares a struggle, ask, “Can I pray with you right now?”

Carry invite cards or a personal testimony card — keep a few in your wallet or purse. You don’t need a mic to preach; you just need to be available.

Let’s be intentional, not accidental.

Let’s be bold, not passive.

Let’s be truth-speakers and truth-livers — because the world doesn’t need another opinion… it needs Jesus.

LET’S KEEP REACHING

The harvest is ready — not someday, but right now

So let’s keep preaching, keep loving, and keep going.

Because truth is not just a message — it’s a Person. And His name is Jesus.

Building Bridges: Effective Social Media for Ministry

Anchoring Our Ministries: The Essential Role of Technical Volunteers

In Hawaii, our Church’s rely on its dedicated technical volunteers to steer our message to the congregation and the wider world. These individuals, often working diligently behind the scenes, are the essential anchor for a seamless and engaging worship experience in the modern age. Without their gifts, our ministries would struggle to connect in a way that truly serves our mission.

Technical Volunteers are Vital

The role of a technical volunteer extends far beyond simply pushing a button; it is a vital part of contemporary ministry. Here are a few ways they contribute to the life and mission of our church:

  • Creating a Distraction-Free Worship Environment: When the sound is mixed well, lyrics are projected clearly, and lighting is appropriate, the focus remains entirely on God's Word and the worship experience. Technical expertise minimizes distractions, allowing all attendees—in-person and online—to engage deeply.
  • Expanding Our Outreach: The ability to live-stream services, record sermons, and manage church websites or social media platforms is crucial for reaching those who are homebound, traveling, or seeking a church community for the first time. Our technical teams are the digital missionaries of our congregation.
  • Supporting All Ministries: From providing sound for the children’s ministry to running presentations for Bible studies and church-wide events, technical volunteers provide the backbone of support that allows every ministry to function effectively.
  • Preserving Our Message: The audio and video archives created by our tech team ensure that the rich teachings, powerful worship, and testimonies from the pulpit are captured and available for future reflection and study.

In essence, these volunteers leverage their God-given talents in audio, visual (slides, video), and media support to help our church advance the Kingdom in a tangible, modern way.

How to Develop and Nurture Our Tech Team

Developing a thriving technical team requires a shift in perspective: we're not just looking for people to "fill a slot," but for disciples whose unique gifts align with a clear ministry need. Here’s a four-step plan for development:

Bishop Wayne White (aka B-Dub)

Hawaii Media Director

1. Personal Invitation and Clear Vision

General calls for volunteers are often met with silence. The most effective recruiting starts with a personal invitation

  • Identify Potential Talent: Look for people already showing an aptitude for or interest in technology, teenagers are always filming things on their phone, the musician who understands sound equipment, or the person with a background in IT or graphic design.
  • Cast a Vision, Not Just a Task: Don't just ask them to "run the soundboard." Instead, explain the profound impact: "Your skill in sound mixing will ensure that people can hear the message of salvation clearly and connect with God through music without distraction." This connects their task to a higher purpose

2. Intentional, Hands-On Training

New volunteers shouldn't be thrown into the deep end during a live Sunday service. Confidence is built through intentional, practical training.

  • Apprenticeship Model: Pair every new volunteer with an experienced technical team member. Have the trainee observe a few services, then co-operate with support, and finally run the service while the veteran observes.
  • Simple, Written Resources: Create easy-to-read, step-by-step checklists or guides for key roles (e.g., "Sunday Morning Sound Check Guide," "Running the Sermon Slides"). Clear expectations reduce anxiety and serve as a reliable reference.
  • Non-Sunday Training: Where possible, schedule hands-on training sessions during the week using rehearsal time or a simulated practice session. This allows them to make mistakes and learn in a low-pressure environment.

3. Build a Culture of Appreciation and Rotation

A committed team is a team that feels valued and isn't burned out.

  • Rotate Responsibilities: Ensure that no single volunteer is serving every week. Use a fair scheduling system that allows team members to attend service with their families and avoid burning out. Rotating roles (slides one week, camera the next) also cross-trains the team and keeps things fresh.
  • Celebrate and Appreciate: Acknowledge their hard work publicly—a shout-out in the weekly bulletin, a thank-you note from the pastor, or a dedicated volunteer appreciation event. A sense of camaraderie, built through shared meals or team meetings, makes people want to serve together.
  • Invest in Their Growth: Encourage volunteers to learn new skills. Point them to helpful online tutorials or perhaps organize an outing to a local audio/visual conference. Committed learning is a habit of thriving volunteers.

4. Foster Humility and Unity

The technical ministry must operate with a focus on service, not performance.

  • Maintain Focus: Remind the team that their goal is not to show off the equipment, but to be an invisible service that supports the worship and the Word. Excellence means being distraction-free
  • Team Humility: Encourage the team to work well with all other ministries, the worship team, ushers, and pastors. Every ministry is a part of the unified body of Christ (Romans 12:6).

By taking these steps, your church can not only recruit but also retain and grow a dedicated, skilled team of technical volunteers who are vital to anchoring our message and ministries in the 21st century. Mahalo nui loa (thank you very much) to all who serve! 🙏

The Revs. Holland to Lead Hawaii Church of God Prayer Force

Through miraculous partnership, Revs. Joel and Ryan Holland continue to build on the foundation of the Maranatha Church of God on Kauai. Their heart for God and people shines bright. This makes their appointment to lead the HI prayer initiative exciting. Look for news and opportunities to engage in prayer in the coming days.

We are asking each church to forward to the State Office the name and contact information of an individual to join the prayer ministry team as a representative from the local church. God still answers prayer.
