FAMILY FOCUS RESOURCE CENTER
IS CELEBRATING
20 YEARS AS AN EMPOWERMENT CENTER!
We are excited to announce that we were recognized by Senator Scott Wilk for our 20th year as a Family Empowerment Center!

Family Empowerment Centers receive funding from the California Department of Education (CDE) to assist families who have children with IEPs or special education needs. Thank you, Senator Wilk and District Director Kris Hough for this recognition.

We were also recognized by the Michael D. Eisner College of Education at CSUN for our role working with families on December 2, National Special Education Day.
JANUARY IS.... / ENERO ES....
January is.... National Braille Literacy Month

This month we recognize the legally blind and visually impaired for National Braille Literacy Month. The observance raises awareness of the importance of Braille to the blind and visually impaired community. As audio technology progresses, the use of Braille dwindles. However, its significance remains, especially in the workplace and the classroom. The month offers the opportunity to learn about and appreciate Braille. To read some fun facts about Braille, visit HERE. Another great resource is The Braille Institute, which provides free services and support for people of all ages experiencing vision loss. Check out their website https://brailleinstitute.org/

UCLA SENSORY COGNITIVE & AFFECTIVE NEURODEVELOPMENT (SCAN) IS SEEKING PARTICIPANTS FOR SENSORY REACTIVITY STUDY

UCLA Scan Lab is seeking participants who are between the ages of 8 and 15, and are either typically developing or on the autism spectrum. This study will focus on how sensory processing and social skills develop in the brain. Data collected from this study will help understand how sensory processing is similar and different in children and teenagers with and without autism, and investigate how sensory regulation develops, which will contribute to developing better treatments for sensory over-responsivity. Participants will receive up to $270 as well as a picture of their brain! Participants can also request a research report on their sensory processing to seek further treatment if needed. Parking is free and we are available weekdays, evenings and weekends.
For more information visit: https://scanlab.dgsom.ucla.edu/pages/
