Did you know July is Disability Pride Month?
Disability Pride Month is celebrated every July and is an opportunity to honor the history, achievements, experiences, and struggles of the disability community. This year marks the 33rd anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, landmark legislation that broke down barriers to inclusion in society. But barriers still exist, which is why we need to honor every kind of disability, the people who identify with them, and the wide range of supports they need to thrive.
Disability Pride Month celebrates disabled people and their contribution to society while seeking to change the way people think about disabilities. People with disabilities make up about 27% of the population in the United States, and represent all ages, races, genders, religions and socio-economic backgrounds. This makes individuals with disabilities the largest and most diverse minority in the USA. To learn more on how to celebrate Disability Pride Month, visit DISABILITY PRIDE MONTH

The Family Focus
Resource Center out in the community!
June was such a great month for FFRC staff to be out meeting more of our families and sharing resources with our community.
At the beginning of June, Victoria, Diana, Arleen & Rebeca were able to attend the California Early Start Partners Symposium in Anaheim. It was an educational couple of days and great to meet other professionals from Resource Centers and Regional Centers from all over California.
FFRC hosted our first Support Group Picnic at Balboa Park, and it was great to meet our support group parents in person!
FFRC was invited to participate in the Val Verde Health Fair (pictured above with 5th District Supervisor Katheryn Barger), where we met many great families from this beautiful rural community!
Thank you to our community partner L.E.A.P. Center Based Program for helping with our Early Start Playdate & Resources event which we had at Richie Valens Park. We loved seeing so many great families with their adorable kids out for a beautiful day! We had many fun activities for the kids and it was great to see parents meeting each other and connecting.
We have had many families stop by our offices in the lobbies of the North LA County Regional Centers to say hello and pick up summer resources. Minako, our staff librarian at the Chatsworth office loves handing out goodies to visiting kids!
Antelope Valley Coordinator Lorena Salgado and her son Francisco were honored to be invited to the NLACRC Board of Trustees Annual Dinner to share their success story. The whole family was able to enjoy a wonderful night!
This Fall, FFRC is planning more in-person events, so make sure to keep reading the newsletter & follow our social media for more updates!
