CONGRATULATIONS TO...
TROOP 25B, SHELTON - During this past weekend, March 19 -21, Troop 25B Scouts headed to a camping trip at Camp Strang. Scouts took turns cooking a meal for all in attendance including Arrow of Light Webelos as they were working in their Cooking MB. During the weekend the Scouts tried to go fishing but the lake still was frozen over. The Scouts enjoyed a fire and laughed a lot.

TROOP 65, SEYMOUR/OXFORD - Troop 65 will be heading to Camp Strang this weekend for an overnight trip. At their recent in-person meeting they were preparing for their upcoming socially distanced overnight trip at Camp Strang. Practicing setting up their one person tents.
THANK YOU to all our units who contributed photos and stories for "CONGRATULATIONS TO..." This section of our newsletter continues because of your contributions. Continue to submit your stories and pictures of what your unit is doing. Please add an email for other leaders interested in contacting you, so they can do what you did in their unit.
ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A UNIT LEADER ROUND #2

Friday Night, April 9, 2021 beginning at 7:00 PM, all youth and adults can test their knowledge of Scouting and see who is better.

In February we ran our first Are You Smarter than..., and a Scout won the night over the adults. Everyone participating had a great time, so the Activities Committee will be bringing the event back for Round 2.

What changes will be made? There will be 4 games of ten question instead of one long game, more chances for participants to show who is smarter.

This is open to adult leaders, youth, and parents. Their will also be two divisions, Cub Scouts and Scouts BSA/Venturing.
CONNECTICUT YANKEE COUNCIL OFFERING WOOD BADGE
What is Wood Badge? Wood Badge focuses on preparing adult leaders to deliver the mission of Scouting.

By attending Wood Badge you will:

  • Learn contemporary leadership concepts and discover how these apply to our value-based program.
  • Understand Scouting as a family of interrelated programs providing age appropriate activities for youth.
  • Revitalize your commitment to Scouting, sharing in an inspirational experience.

Wood Badge is presented in two phases.
  • Practical phase - five days over two weekends at camp (all day Friday, Saturday & Sunday of the first weekend, and all day Saturday and Sunday of the second weekend) plus two patrol meetings between the weekends.
  • Application phase, occurs after the completion of the two weekends and consists of applying the skills you learn at Wood Badge to your position in Scouting. This phase is also referred to as “working your ticket.”

DID YOU MARK YOUR CALENDAR?!

APRIL 17, 2021 - CAMP STRANG PREPARATION DAY #1 (WORKDAY #1)

As you may have heard the State of Connecticut will let us begin planning for summer camp on April 2. In order to have a fun and safe summer camp we need to prepare the Edmund D. Strang Scout Reservation for 2021 activity.

April 17 will be our first Preparation Day. What does that mean? What happened to calling them workdays?

We have used the term "workday" for a long time, and we all know what this means. We will work hard to get camp PREPARED by cleaning it, improving the camp facilities, and preparing OUR camp for the upcoming summer after its long hibernation.

SO...JOIN US AS WE GET CAMP STRANG PREPARED
FOR ITS 60TH ANNIVERSARY!

There are two other Prep Days scheduled. May 8 and June 5.

2021 DAY CAMP / CUB RESIDENT CAMP BROCHURE
The Housatonic Council will be following COVID-19 measures in 2021, to keep our campers, families and staff safe.

In 2021, we look ahead with optimistic anticipation to a new scouting year. We maintain optimism with the realization there are more hurdles to clear in the months ahead. As challenges, new or old are presented, the Housatonic Council will persevere, and we will continue to meet them.

We are planning and anticipate holding our Cub Scout summer camp programs. On behalf of myself and the entire summer camp staff, welcome!

2021 SUMMER CAMP EMPLOYMENT
We are planning to hold summer camp in the summer of 2021 depending on the State of Connecticut's Guidelines for Summer Camps.

As we prepare for this expectation we need to hire summer camp staff. In 2021 we are trying to make the process easier. We will have one application and you can apply for either Cub Day Camp or Camp Strang Summer Camp or both. If you have any questions about the application please contact the Housatonic Council office at 203-734-3329 x 302.
