May is a time to raise awareness of and reduce the stigma surrounding behavioral health issues, as well as highlighting the ways how mental illness and addiction can affect all of us – patients, providers, families, and our society at large. Cystic fibrosis is a progressive, genetic disease that causes long-lasting lung infections and limits the ability to breathe over time. More than 30,000 children and adults in the United States have CF (70,000 worldwide) and CF affects people of every racial and ethnic group.
There is no cure for CF, but but treatment can ease symptoms, reduce complications and improve quality of life.
La fibrosis quística es una enfermedad genética progresiva que causa infecciones pulmonares duraderas y limita la capacidad de respirar con el tiempo. Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS) is a non-inherited, life-long, life-threatening genetic disorder that can causes serious symptoms, including severe muscle weakness, delayed developmental milestones, emotional & behavioral problems, and hyperphagia: a constant physiological drive to eat and an inability to feel satiated after eating.
Prader-Willi Syndrome has no cure, but early diagnosis and treatment may help prevent or reduce the number of challenges that individuals with PWS may experience.

She loves spending time with her kids, especially taking them to water parks, camping, & attending local community events. April was very busy for Family Focus Resource Center! We hosted the Antelope Valley Disability Resource Fair at Sgt. Steve Owen Memorial Park! It was wonderful to collaborate with our community partners and help get so many great resources to our AV families!
Our Santa Clarita office attended the Spring Jubilee & Healthy Parks Fair in Castaic, the Santa Clarita Family Playdate & Activities Fair at West Creek Park, and Oak Hills Elementary School Parent Resource Fair. Mayra, Lesny, and Theresa were everywhere and they were so excited to see so many families in person again enjoying the great weather and meeting each other!
Back in the San Fernando Valley, Victoria and Fatima had a great day with so many families at CCRC's Annabelle Godwin Family Play Day at Woodley Park.
Diana and Rebeca helped families with resources at "Life after High School" resource fair at Lowman Special Education Center while our Santa Clarita staff were at the Transition to Adulthood Resource Fair in Santa Clarita.
Minako & Diana were happy to attend the first "Autism Acceptance Resource Fair" sponsored by Councilman John Lee in District 12 and the LA City Dept. of Disability at Chatsworth South Park. This event was in honor of Autism Awareness/Acceptance month, and it was a beautiful day with over 20 vendors and lots of families to share our resources with! What a hidden gem this park is, make sure to check it out!
On the same weekend, Theresa attended the 10th Help Group Resource Fair. All these events have been so well attended and we loved meeting new families and sharing resources with everyone!
