IEP Essentials: Empowering & Preparing Parents for their child’s IEP

May is... International 5P- Syndrome Awareness Month


Each year in the United States, approximately 50 to 60 children are born with 5p- Syndrome (five p minus), also known as Cat Cry Syndrome or Cri du Chat Syndrome. 5p- Syndrome is characterized at birth by a high pitched cry, low birth weight, poor muscle tone, microcephaly, and potential medical complications. “5p-” is a term used by geneticists to describe a portion of chromosome number five that is missing in these individuals. 5p deletion is a spectrum disorder. To learn more about how to help or raise awareness, please visit; 5P-syndrome

Happy Birthday Dr. Weiner!

Dr. Weiner will be celebrating by going for a hike on his actual birthday with his wife and then having a picnic birthday party with family on the weekend!

Tessie is excited for her birthday since she is planning on visiting her family and spending time with them on Memorial Day weekend. She is also looking forward to her son competing in Special Olympics this year and starting high school in the fall!

Diana will be enjoying her birthday by spending the day with her family at Oxnard Shores beach for a relaxing walk and visiting her favorite seafood restaurant in the Channel Islands harbor.

7th Annual Rockin' Resource Fair

Fatima attended the 7th Annual Rockin' Resource Fair! It was great event: Celebrating Inclusion for Everyone, with more than 50 vendors and a wonderful opportunity to connect with professionals and with other parents.

Wellness Fair Open House at Haddon Ave Elementary

April 8


Fatima attended the Wellness Fair Open House at Haddon Avenue Elementary School. So many families attended: Haddon had music, and about 15 vendors were present to give resources to all the families.

Sendak Elementary Open House

April 10


Fatima attended the Open House event, "Bring Your Parent to School Day," at Sendak Elementary School. She said it was a nice experience— and she was able to collect 35 signatures!

Life After HS Miller Fair

April 8


Tim attended the Life After HS Miller Fair and gave a presentation for parents about FFRC to a large crowd of families. He had a great time at our table with Theresa, and shared how FFRC can help during transition, and informed them about upcoming support groups, workshops, our resource library and direct parent-to-parent support.

Annabelle Godwin Family Play Day

April 12


Tessie and Tim said they had lots of fun at the Annabelle Godwin Family Play Day! They offered various resources and information and connected with families and professionals. It was a great turn-out with beautiful weather. The Zumba class and Indigenous Dance group was a favorite amongst everyone. Tim says he loved the daycare featuring the workers in their sunflower headpieces.

Antelope Valley CSC Open House

April 21 & 22


Our Antelope Valley office welcomed the Lancaster CSC's to their office to update them on available resources and support groups that they can share with the families they serve. It was so great meeting so many CSC's and we hope they visit Wendy, Samantha and Lilah again soon!

Filipino Support Group Potluck

April 21


The Filipino Support Group in-person potluck was a major success! There was lots of delicious foods. Around 50 people were served and the families had fun mingling and seeing each other in-person.

Bakersfield Rally to Save Medicaid

April 24


This was an incredible day with a full turnout in Bakersfield from the community. Theresa met up with NLACRC Executive Director Angela-Johnson Pao and with a mom from our Black and African American Support Group and her son. She also saw our friends from Special Needs Network. It is so amazing to see the community turn up for such an important cause.

Kindness Heals Event

April 25


The event took place at Challenger Middle School in Lancaster. Alongside the vendors with various resources available, there was also a talent show, scavenger hunt, and presentations on anti-bullying, recognizing healthy and unhealthy behaviors in friendships/relationships, and a violence prevention segment which were all extremely informative. Lilah enjoyed talking with the families and making connections! 

SFV Delta Sorority Health Fair

Fatima and Theresa stopped by the San Fernando Valley Delta Sorority Health Fair in Pacoima! They saw some new and some familar faces. Thank you to the SFV Delta Sorority for hosting a great event.

Help Group Resource Fair

The Help Group Resource Fair was a day full of fun. Theresa caught up with Ron Epstein from LA Parent, one of the sponsors of the Help Group Resource Fair. It was an incredible turnout! Special shoutout to the Help Group for putting on such an amazing day with lots of great services and resources.
