Down Syndrome Awareness month
Down syndrome is a genetic condition that causes mild to serious physical and developmental problems.
People with Down syndrome are born with an extra chromosome & this extra chromosome leads to a range of issues that can affect a person both mentally and physically. Although it can’t be cured, doctors know more about it now than ever. If your child has it, getting the right care early on can make a big difference in helping them live a full and meaningful life. To learn more, please visit Down Syndrome Association Los Angeles HERE or better yet, join the 29th Annual DSALA T21 Walk & Festival, happening Sunday, November 12th at 11:30 am! Sign up here.

National Bullying Prevention Month
It’s aggressive, mean, and potentially life-threatening. Bullying comes in many forms, none of which are acceptable. According to a recent federal survey, nearly 20 percent of U.S. high school students reported being bullied on school property within the past year. (Fifteen percent reported cyberbullying.) October’s National Bullying Prevention Month reminds us that students, parents, teachers, and school administrators all play a role. Positive change comes as we begin to emphasize respect and inclusion on campuses across the country. Watch one of our previously recorded workshops on bullying prevention Bullying Prevention Workshop, or read what you can do to help HERE.

The Family Focus
Resource Center out in the community!
Welcome to Fall! We hope you are enjoying the cooler weather and are getting ready for Fall and Winter festivities!
Victoria & Diana attended the Inclusion Matters "2023 Run, Walk & Roll" event at Griffith Park. What a great time seeing so many great families, and we always love to see the adorable support dogs! Even Senator Anthony Portantino stopped by the FFRC table to say hello!
The weekend of September 23rd was a busy one for FFRC staff! Kathryn and Victoria attended the City of Santa Clarita Health & Resource Fair, while Theresa attended the New Horizons Walkathon. This was the 14th annual New Horizons event, and each year it keeps getting bigger and more families come out to walk in support of their family members who attend New Horizons.
Fatima & Minako represented FFRC at the NLACRC Chatsworth Vendor fair. We were able to share what we do with other vendors as well as get their resources so we can share with all of you!
FFRC is already planning our events and workshops for 2024, so make sure to keep reading the newsletter & follow our social media for more updates! See you at the Resource Fair!

HAPPY BIRTHDAYTO MAYRA LARA!
|
We all wish Mayra a happy birthday this month! Mayra has been with Family Focus at our Santa Clarita office since 2019 in her role as Coordinator.
Fun fact about Mayra: She loves scary movies year-round, and her favorite is the 1978 classic "Halloween"! We all admire Mayra because she is so busy with work and her two handsome sons, and we know that everything she does is for her family! She loves working with our FFRC families, especially because she knows she has made a difference in their lives.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
