“Take My Advice, I'm Not Using It”
Sunday, October 25, 2020
11am CT, Rev. Kelly Isola, Guest Speaker
*Facebook Live
How many times have you thought, or even said, “Here, do it this way...” or something similar. Have you ever given well-meaning, heartfelt suggestions only to discover that perhaps you could be using a little of what you're offering for yourself? “Take My Advice, I’m Not Using It” becomes a perfect little catch phrase to remind ourselves to stay present to what is, the good, the bad and the ugly. It’s also a wonderful tool for checking in with ourselves in order to practice a little gentleness and self-compassion.
About Kelly:
Reverend Kelly Isola is an innovation alchemist, and passionate about supporting people and organizations to live and love more authentically by sharing her passion for living the two-fold path of an engaged spiritual life – embracing the inner path of wisdom, as well as demonstrating the outer path of compassionate service. She is passionate about interfaith and interspiritual work as an avenue for individual and collective healing and peace. As an ordained Unity minister, Kelly also loves sharing her wisdom in the classroom through her own classes, and as faculty for two seminaries. Kelly is an avid blogger on her own site, guest blogs, writes for Unity Magazine, various Unity booklets, and a number of online magazines. Read more about Kelly at www.kellyisola.com.

Treasurer's Report as of 9/30/2020
(revised)
Gross Revenue $162,446.16
Net Income $199.01
Unity of Arlington recently applied for and received a PPP loan from the government stimulus program in the amount of $19,900. At this time it is still considered a loan from the government. If we are able to get loan forgiveness, which we are fully expecting to accomplish, then it will no longer be considered a loan but a gift that does not need to be repaid. We will keep you posted as to the current status of these funds. Update: We have applied for the loan forgiveness and will keep you apprised of the results.

SpiritGroups Service Project on UofA Campus!
Last Saturday, October 17, was a gorgeous day, perfect for spending some time outside. Fifteen SpiritGroup members gathered from 9am to noon to begin work on the children's playground. Socially distanced and with masks in place, they took down a fence, cut, trimmed, and wrapped limbs, and raked. The steps to the Sunday School exit in the administration building were repaired and all the bolts on the swing set were tightened. More work is planned for the spring to continue to fix up the playground for the day we can welcome our kiddos back!

One Week of Early Voting Remains...ends October 30th
Early voting in the state of Texas for the general election on November 3 will end on October 30, 2020.
Hours might vary a bit by location or day of the week, so for information on early voting click HERE.
Large numbers of Texans have already cast their votes, which means waiting lines are much shorter in many areas. Although there may still be some crowded polling places, don't let that deter you.
Make a plan to vote. Here are some suggestions. Decide what day you will go, how you will get there, if you are going to go with someone. Don't make other appointments or plans for that day as you don't know how long the voting lines will be. Keep all protocols for being in public during the pandemic in mind (socially distance the whole time, wear a face mask, take hand sanitizer, etc.). Plan on wearing comfortable shoes as you may be standing for a while. Individuals who have trouble standing for more than a few minutes may want to consider taking a small portable chair. Check on the weather report; do you need an umbrella? Take a bottle of water to stay hydrated, especially if the weather is warm. You may want to pack a light snack. You do not want anything to interfere with your voting. Be sure to remember your ID; Texas driver licenses or personal identification cards issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) are preferred although other types of ID are acceptable (refer to link above).

A Reminder of Ways to Help Protect Yourself and Others
The grim news that coronavirus infections continue to rise reminds us that we need to be vigilant in our personal safety actions.
Along with the strong recommendation that you get a flu shot, here again are the guidelines:
- Wear a mask, and wear it properly, with both nose and mouth covered..
- Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
- Avoid touching your face.
- Protect coughs by coughing and sneezing into your elbow and/or a tissue.
- Frequently clean surfaces that are often touched, especially doorknobs, door frames, telephones, keyboards, and bathroom areas.
- Use hand sanitizer.
- Stay home if you are not feeling well.

Spiritual counseling can help if there is a need for inspiration, crisis support, or healing in any area of your life. UNITY'S FIVE BASIC PRINCIPLES
Principle #1:
There is only one Presence and one Power in the Universe and in my life, God the Good.
Principle #2:
Human beings have a spark of divinity within them, the Christ spirit within.
Their essence is of God, and therefore they are also inherently good.
Principle #3:
Human beings create their experiences by the activity of their thinking.
Everything in the manifest realm has its beginning in thought.
Principle #4:
Prayer is creative thinking that heightens the connection with God Mind and therefore brings forth wisdom, healing, prosperity, and everything good.
Principle #5:
Knowing and understanding the laws of life, also called Truth, are not enough.
A person must live the truth he or she knows.
|
CORE VALUES
Spirit-Led:
Centered in the awareness of God's presence, we turn within for divine guidance in
all we do.
Love:
Love is our True Nature. We express the harmonizing power of love to see good everywhere and in everybody. Love binds together the whole human family.
Diversity:
We believe that all people are created with sacred worth. In a spirit of Unity, we embrace each person as an expression of God grounded in truth and love.
Connection:
We live, love, and laugh from our Oneness with God. We honor our inter-connectedness with each other, with all life, and the earth.
Abundance:
God is our Infinite Source of Good. We gratefully demonstrate prosperity in all areas
of our lives. We wisely use our wealth of resources to serve our spiritual community and the world.
Service:
We cultivate enlightened leadership by practicing the teachings of Jesus the Christ through sacred service. It is a blessing to serve locally and globally.
Integrity:
We consciously choose to practice living our Core Values and Unity Principles rather than simply professing them. We choose to communicate from the heart with authenticity and deliver on our commitments with reliability.
