A Message from Rev. Paula+
Beloved Community,

After a couple of weeks that have been busier than usual, what with final arrangements for the cemetery tour, getting ready for the first organ recital of the Beckerath's 50th anniversary, clergy conference for two full days, getting ready for our first Children's Sunday service, beginning orientation with the new Sunday School lead teacher, praying about the first funeral I will officiate for someone from our parish, and much more, I stole away for a bit at the end of the day today, ostensibly to get a photo of one of the headstones featured in our (now) indoor cemetery tour on Sunday.  It was there that I took this photo of fall trees.  As I was looking at the photo I was reminded of the natural cycle of things, with growth and loss, life and death, along with one of my favorite ways of enjoying the graces of God's creation - a crisp, sunny fall day illustrated with vibrant colors.  In that sacred place, surrounded by so many saints who have gone before, I was struck by a sense of wonder and gratitude for the God who graces us with the beauty of creation, gives us each other to share it with, and whose holy Spirit enlivens, empowers, and embolden us to do all those things that connect us to each other and to the Divine.

Peace & Blessings,
Angelle Thompson's Funeral
Angelle's funeral will be Saturday, November 2nd at 10:00 am.  Calling hours will be here at the church from 9:00 to 10:00 am.  Following the service, we will lay Angelle to rest in the St. Stephen's Cemetery.  If you'd like to read her obituatary, you may do so here.
Giving in Faith
Our financial pledge campaign is underway.  Pledge letters have been mailed.  Extra packets will be left on the table.  If you do not receive a letter by next week, please let Doreen or Rev. Paula know.  "Commitment Sunday," the day we bless the pledges we receive, will be Sunday, November 10th.
Sunday School Update
If you were at church last Sunday, you may have had a chance to meet Greg Chen, the new Lead Teacher.  If not, I encourage you to make a point of meeting him this Sunday, the first day he'll be doing Sunday School.  Rev. Paula will be working with him until December 1st, when Sunday School will move to 9:45.  It would be wonderful to see as many families as possible during the challenging 9:00 hour so that he will have a well supported introduction to the parish and a good orientation to the position.
All Saints' Sunday
On Sunday, November 3rd we will observe All Saints' Day.  If you would like a loved one included in the special prayers, please call the office (973.376.0688, ext. 32 or email Doreen at church@ststephensmillburn.org.  We will need the names no later than Thursday, October 31st.  If you'd rather, you may leave a note in the offering plate when you are in church on Sunday.

Due to the rain last Sunday, the Cemetery Tour will take place this  Sunday, October 27th. Free walking tours will leave the cemetery gate at 451 Millburn Avenue (across from Millburn High School) at approximately  15-minute intervals between 2 and 4 PM.

In the event that it rains again this Sunday, 10/27, the event will be held at St. Stephen's Church, 119 Main Street, Millburn.

All parishioners, family and friends are welcome!

Please join us the first Friday of each month, from 9 to 10 am at Splurge Bakery in Millburn for this monthly adult Bible Study group together with our friends from Christ Church in Short Hills and Congregation B'Nai Jeshurun.

Our next gathering will take place November 1st.  All are welcome!

The next book discussion with Rev. Paula will be Sunday, November 3 at 11:30am. November's book selection is Tattoos on the Heart: The Power of Boundless Compassion by Greg Boyle.  Join us!

Don't forget to set your clocks back one hour next Sunday morning 11/3.

This recital series relies heavily on the financial support of its Friends of Music to maintain the series.  As you are able, please consider making a tax deductible donation, entitling you to admission to each concert and acknowledgement in the programs.
