From the Minister

Dear Unity Friends,

As we count down to Election Day, I invite you to join me in holding the High Watch for our democracy—not only on Tuesday, November 3rd—but also in the weeks and months ahead. Let us hold a prayerful vision for love, peace and harmony.

I also want to encourage you (if you haven’t already) to make a plan to vote. Why? Because your vote matters. Your voice matters. And you make a difference!

Enjoy this one minute video for some inspiration.
Check out these resources from Election Protection in advance so you’re familiar with what you need to know. Election Protection is a national, non-partisan election protection coalition that works to help ensure that all voters have an equal opportunity to vote and have that vote count.

Here is a fantastic link to what you need to know about voting in Your State: https://866ourvote.org/state/

And don’t forget to share why voting is important to you with a family member or friend and encourage him or her to make their own voting plan. For me, I still get verklempt each and every time.

There is much for which to be hopeful. We are the ones.

In Love and Unity,
Rev. Anne Tabor

Rumi wrote, “Your task is not to seek for Love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.”

How do we dissolve these barriers? What steps can we take to walk through the doorway to unconditional love? Not just from one perspective, but holistically from all angles—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Join Rev. Anne for the 2nd of her three-part talk series based on the book, Love for No Reason, as she shares Marci Shimoff’s specific keys to opening your heart and transforming your life.
Book Study – Love for No Reason

Rev. Anne Tabor

In her New York Times bestselling book Love for No Reason transformational leader and author, Marci Shimoff, offers a breakthrough approach to experiencing a lasting state of unconditional love—the kind of love that doesn’t depend on another person, situation, or romantic partner and that you can access at any time and in any circumstance. This is the deepest and truest form of love and is the key to lasting joy and fulfillment in life.

What if you could bring the highest and best parts of yourself to your family and friends, to your work, to your community, and even to the things that you find most challenging in your life? You can, when you learn to “love for no reason.”

This is love at its highest and best—it’s what people want most deeply and it’s what the world needs most urgently. Whatever your experience of love is right now—whether you’re in pain or feeling great—you can learn to love at a higher level starting today!

Plan Your Vote
November 3, 2020

The website VoteTexas.gov has the majority of information you need. Click on the "Your Vote Counts" button to the right to access the website.

Make a plan to vote. Here are some suggestions. Decide what day you will go, how you will get there, if you are going to go with someone. Don't make other appointments or plans for that day as you don't know how long the voting lines will be. Keep all protocols for being in public during the pandemic in mind (socially distance the whole time, wear a face mask, take hand sanitizer, etc.). Plan on wearing comfortable shoes as you may be standing for a while. Individuals who have trouble standing for more than a few minutes may want to consider taking a small portable chair. Check on the weather report; do you need an umbrella? Take a bottle of water to stay hydrated, especially if the weather is warm. You may want to pack a light snack. You do not want anything to interfere with your voting. Be sure to remember your ID; Texas driver licenses or personal identification cards issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) are preferred although other types of ID are acceptable (refer to link above).

A Reminder of Ways to Help Protect Yourself and Others

The grim news that coronavirus infections continue to rise reminds us that we need to be vigilant in our personal safety actions.

Along with the strong recommendation that you get a flu shot, here again are the guidelines:

  • Wear a mask, and wear it properly, with both nose and mouth covered..
  • Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Avoid touching your face.
  • Protect coughs by coughing and sneezing into your elbow and/or a tissue.
  • Frequently clean surfaces that are often touched, especially doorknobs, door frames, telephones, keyboards, and bathroom areas.
  • Use hand sanitizer.
  • Stay home if you are not feeling well.

Spiritual counseling can help if there is a need for inspiration, crisis support, or healing in any area of your life. Prayer and meditation are an integral part of Unity's spiritual principles, and an essential practice in realizing the answers we seek. We believe in the transformative power of affirmative prayer. You are a unique expression of God. Spiritual counseling will remind you of that!

UNITY'S FIVE BASIC PRINCIPLES

Principle #1:
There is only one Presence and one Power in the Universe and in my life, God the Good.

Principle #2:
Human beings have a spark of divinity within them, the Christ spirit within.
Their essence is of God, and therefore they are also inherently good.

Principle #3:
Human beings create their experiences by the activity of their thinking.
Everything in the manifest realm has its beginning in thought.

Principle #4:
Prayer is creative thinking that heightens the connection with God Mind and therefore brings forth wisdom, healing, prosperity, and everything good.

Principle #5:
Knowing and understanding the laws of life, also called Truth, are not enough.
A person must live the truth he or she knows.
CORE VALUES
Spirit-Led:
Centered in the awareness of God's presence, we turn within for divine guidance in
all we do.

Love:
Love is our True Nature. We express the harmonizing power of love to see good everywhere and in everybody. Love binds together the whole human family.

Diversity:
We believe that all people are created with sacred worth. In a spirit of Unity, we embrace each person as an expression of God grounded in truth and love.

Connection:
We live, love, and laugh from our Oneness with God. We honor our inter-connectedness with each other, with all life, and the earth.

Abundance:
God is our Infinite Source of Good. We gratefully demonstrate prosperity in all areas
of our lives. We wisely use our wealth of resources to serve our spiritual community and the world.

Service:
We cultivate enlightened leadership by practicing the teachings of Jesus the Christ through sacred service. It is a blessing to serve locally and globally.

Integrity:
We consciously choose to practice living our Core Values and Unity Principles rather than simply professing them. We choose to communicate from the heart with authenticity and deliver on our commitments with reliability.
