Administrative Updates & Announcements From the Office
New Podcast Episode
The Public School Experiment
The third episode of our new podcast, Homeschool Talk with HCS is up! In this episode, Principal Vicki Stormoen and Producer Lilia Sepulveda address some common objections to homeschooling and the misconception that homeschooling is the new kid on the block. Listen in as Principal Vicki gives us a brief history of the birth of public education in America and how it has fared academically in comparison to homeschooling.

Which Account Do I Use For What?
Are you confused about the three different logins you have at HCS? Download, print and use this diagram to help keep track of what you can find/do through each of the three different programs we use: SIS, HSL, and Bill & Pay. Also note the things you can find through the Members Only section of the website; including this diagram.

Congratulations to our school accountant, Tracy West, for being the first person to successfully complete the WORD passage this school year. All those who complete the passage will be listed in the newsletter, featured on the website, and receive a WORD decal. Collect a new decal every year while hiding God's WORD in your heart.
Updated Parent/Student Handbook
As mentioned previously, we will be highlighting changes to the Parent/Student Handbook here for the next several weeks. The new handbook may be found in full on the website in the Members Only section under Documents. You can link directly to it from here.
One of the changes removes the "No Dating" language found in previous editions, and changes that section to a "No Touching" policy. While we appreciate families have different standards related to dating and PDA (public displays of affection), we simply state that PDA is not allowed in HCS settings. The policy reads as follows:
No Touching
Heritage Christian School has a “no PDA” (public display of affection) policy. This means that students should refrain from touching at HCS events. Touching includes, but is not limited to, hand holding, hugging, arms around another student, sitting on another student’s lap, or kissing.

The School Office Could Use Your Help
From time to time the office admin team could use volunteers to help with small administrative tasks. We have put together a live online sign-up portal that will run year-round. HCS parents and high school students with availability are invited to participate. High School students are eligible to receive credit for hours volunteered. Visit our iVolunteer online portal any time for a list of open tasks and sign up for them.
Current Listings:
1-2 people to put together Welcome folders.
1 person to research California PSP's.
10 people to make phone calls to new HCS moms.

Student Work Permits
All work permits from last year are now expired. If you are still working at the same job, please notify the office for an updated permit. Email [email protected]. This may be all completed through email.

Course of Study (COS) Is Now Open
The Course of Study, or COS, must be submitted online through the Student Information System, SIS, before Friday, October 1, 2022. The COS is a list of the courses a student will complete during a school year including the course descriptions, book titles, and publishers.
If you need assistance logging in to the Student Information System, please contact the school office before the due date of October 1st to avoid the $25 late fee for submissions entered after the deadline. Once you are logged on to SIS, go to Course of Study and then click on a student's name to fill out the form.
If you would like help entering their Course of Study, there are options!
- Vicki Stormoen will be able to assist you at EC Class Day or Academy (when she is not teaching).
- Tracy West will be able to assist you at DC Class Day.
-
The office will host a COS entering party on September 30th. No appointment required. Stop by anytime between 10:00am - 3:00pm and someone can sit down with you to enter this together. Please bring a laptop if possible.
This is something that you only need to do once a year! If you change curriculum or courses throughout the year, there is no need to update your Course of Study!

John Jensen Receives National Award for the CLT10
September 8, 2022
John Jensen has been named a 2022 National Award Winner by the Classic Learning Test for his outstanding performance on the CLT10 assessment. This award recognizes Jensen for scoring in the top 1% of all CLT10 test-takers in the 2021-22 academic year.
The CLT10 is a college preparatory exam and PSAT® alternative designed for 9th and 10th graders and offered by the Classic Learning Test. Evaluating English, math, and critical reasoning skills, it provides a comprehensive measure of achievement and aptitude and engages students with classic texts from the most influential authors and thinkers across time. Since its inception in 2016, Classic Learning Test has sought to offer assessments steeped in more intellectually rich and rigorous content than other standardized tests.
John Jensen has made a remarkable achievement. Out of the thousands of sophomore students who take the CLT10 every year, only the top 50 students receive National Awards. Along with the title of National Award Recipient, Jensen has earned a $2,500 scholarship to any of the CLT Partner Colleges.
Visit the CLT website for complete list of national and regional CLT10 award winners and their school name.
