This Palm Sunday - April 14th, 2019
Dear FUMC family,

This Sunday is Palm Sunday – the day Jesus made his entry into Jerusalem. This event is described in all four of the Gospels as an occasion of great joy for the people. I can imagine his disciples thinking, “Finally, Jesus has arrived. For the first time, he’s let us sing and dance and shout and proclaim him as the Messiah!” But there are several clues in the story that suggest there is more at work than meets the eye. Jesus does not enter the city in the way one would think the Messiah would come. Jesus does not fit the crowd’s understanding of what the Jewish Messiah would do and be. And before the week is over, the crowd who hailed him as King will shout “Crucify him.” I hope you will join us this Sunday as we explore the “Great Expectations” surrounding Palm Sunday.

In Christ,
Pastor Debra

"Great Expectations"

Mark 11:1-11
Questions to Ponder:

1. The story of Palm Sunday teaches us the God frequently works in ways very different from what we expectation. When has God worked differently from the way in which you expected?

2. Those who followed Jesus into Jerusalem took a risk as the Roman government was suspicious of anyone who appeared to oppose them. When have you taken a risk in the name of Jesus?

Shadows of Sacrifice: A Service of Tenebrae - 7:00 PM in Sanctuary
Follow the disciples as they follow Jesus from the Garden of Gethsemane to the darkness of Golgatha. A Service of Tenebrae (Latin for "darkness") recounts the story of the last hours of Jesus' life as seen through the eyes of the disciples. As we progress through scripture and song, seven candles are extinguished one y one symbolizing the doubt and darkness that befell the disciples as they were plunged in to a world of an unknown an uncertain future. Finally, the only light remaining is the Christ Candle. As the Christ Candle is carried from the sanctuary, the disciples, and we are left in utter darkness.

Serve Your Church
Attention all FUMC family...it is time again to start filling in our volunteer calendar for our Good News and Daddy at the Desk workers. Good News is a time during each worship service that the children ages 3 - 2nd grade are allowed to slip away for some kid friendly worship. It only takes about 30 minutes of your time and lessons are provided. Our Daddies at the Desk provide security for our nursery during the 10:55 service, these special guys (or gals) man the front door and monitor the Education Building. We REALLY need your help with both of these jobs during 2019. Sign up for available times by clicking the buttons below. If you have any questions or want to talk more about it please contact Kim Myers. 336-889-3103
