WORSHIP NEWS

The Season of Lent is Upon Us

The Season of Lentbegins with Ash Wednesday Worship on Wednesday, March 1st at 7:00 p.m. Lent spans the 40 days leading up to Easter, excluding Sundays - because every Sunday is considered a "little Easter!  It is a more reflective time in the church year, modeled after the forty days Jesus spent in the desert being tempted by the devil.  Like our Savior, we choose to lay aside those practices that lead us into temptation.  Instead, we put on the "full armor of God" - through study of God's Word at home and in Small Group Bible Studies, as well as through prayer, generosity, and serving others in Christ's name.

Mid-Week Lenten Series: "40 Days of Giving"

Join us for Mid-Week Lenten Dinners of homemade Soups and Sandwiches, at 6 PM, starting Wednesday, March 8th. Please bring a dish to pass if you can. We also welcome help with set up and clean up! Sign up on the Worship Card if you plan to attend, so we have enough places set for everyone. Worship follows at 6:45 PM. in the Sanctuary. This year we will be looking at a variety of areas that impact food scarcity both locally and in the world. We will have members of our congregation, First Love missionaries, a representative from Kids Against Hunger, and an engineer who retired so he could travel around the world helping others to obtain clean drinking water. They will help us to learn more about hunger locally and globally. Together we will enjoy a simple meal and come to better understand the challenges our neighbors have meeting their basic needs for food and water. All are invited to bring a non-perishable food item each week if they can, to be shared with our local pantries.

Mid-Week Themes:

+ Wednesday, March 8th at 6:45 PM
- "Hunger and Children in Our Schools"
- Speaker: Lynsey Fleck

+ Wednesday, March 15th at 6:45 PM
          - "Water of the Plant" - Speaker: Lauren Johnson

MISSION

Treehouse

The Tree House is also in need of ongoing supplies...these include certain snacks, toys, books, "lovie" blankets, etc. Children's Hospital requires that all toys, books, etc be new.   Check out the website for more information on the WCAC and how you can be of assistance: www.wcac4kids.org .
If you, your family or members of a small group or other ministry group would like to join in bringing joy to these children and families, please contact Evie Schulz for further information. You will be blessed for being a blessing.
Snacks are needed on an ongoing basis.  Often times children arrive hungry, thirsty and haven't eaten in a while or may be at The Tree House for several hours.  Items such a individually sealed crackers, juice boxes, bottled water, packaged fruit snacks or other healthy packaged, non-perishable food items would be greatly appreciated.  There will be a box with WCAC sign on it in the Gathering Space next to a Poster regarding The WCAC/Tree House.  Please note that the advocacy center is a division of Children's Hospital of Milwaukee.
Upon completing the forensic interview, physical exam and/or counseling session, all children are offered a small toy or game.  These items must be new in accordance with Children's Hospital rules.  Examples would be board games, action figures, dolls, books, crafts or activities, sports items, stuffed animals, hot wheels, toy trucks.  The cost for these items range between $5-$10.  Anyone who would like to shop for these items are welcome to put them in the box in the Gathering Space.  These items should not be wrapped.  Another option is to make a monetary contribution.  Checks should be written to the WCAC and sent to W4063 Hwy NN, Elkhorn 53121.  Indicate on the memo line that your donation is for "snacks" or "toys".  You will receive an acknowledgement for tax purposes.
Check out the website:  wcac4kids.org for more information on WCAC/The Tree House and ways you can help.

Care Team

The Care Team will meet again on Monday, March 20th at 1:00 pm.
This is an important time for us to share and communicate about the shut-in members we are caring for. All our welcome to attend.  Please contact Kristin Larkin at 414-491-1969 or email her at kristinlarkin@yahoo.com with any questions or concerns. Also, if you have names of members who have indicated they would be in need of a visit from the Care Team please let Kristin or Bethany know and they will be added to the list of people enjoying visits from this wonderful ministry.

"Stitchin' for Kids"

The Wednesday morning quilters have a special project in the works.  They will be making fleece blankets for the children who come to The Tree House (Children's Advocacy Center, Elkhorn) due to suspected physical or sexual abuse and/or neglect.  Ages range is anywhere from a couple weeks old to 17 years of age.

This can be a traumatic experience for these precious souls and the Tree House staff has found that if they are able to give them a "lovie" when they arrive, or leave, it helps calm and sooth the children while the process is taking place.

If you would like to help with this worthwhile endeavor, many hands make the project go quickly and is fun besides.  Contact Jackie Kuehl for more information.

Another way to be involved is to give a monetary donation to help offset the cost of each blanket ($20 per blanket).  Donations can be placed in an envelope with "Stitching for Kids" on the outside and left with Bethany in the church office.  If you prefer to write a check, make it out to Immanuel Lutheran Church and put "Stitchin' for Kids" on the memo line.

The Wednesday morning quilters plan to have this as an ongoing project.  Last year 300+ children were served at the Tree House...that is a lot of blankets. Thank you for whatever you can do to be of assistance to these children.

Thrivent Financial is a not for profit company for Christians.  They intentionally give money back to strengthen communities and change lives.  Thrivent has provided more than $330 million to help churches, educational institutions and other nonprofit organizations through the Thrivent Choice Charitable grant program since its 2010 introduction. The program gives members an opportunity to recommend where Thrivent distributes some of its charitable outreach funds each year. Come and find out more about this wonderful program and visit with other members of Immanuel.

Thrivent Workshop - Your Legacy: Family, Church and Charity

Unleash your generosity! Want to help sustain your church's foundation? Or your alma mater's endowment fund? And leave an inheritance? It doesn't matter if you're a Midwestern farmer, Pacific coast fisherman or a Southern belle. If there are people or causes you care about, we can help you uncover ways to enrich their futures. Join us for a presentation on estate and giving strategies and we'll discuss how to ensure your legacy lives on. This FREE workshop will be held on Monday, March 20th from 6p.m. to 7:00p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at Immanuel.

Electronic Giving

Throughout the year, if you can't make it to church we encourage you to automate your regular donations. Immanuel relies on the consistent financial support of the congregation and electronic giving offers an easy way to give on a recurring basis. Visit www.Immanuellakegeneva.org or contact the church office for more information. We have authorization forms in the church office. We thank you for your continued support!

Weekly Giving Envelopes

We are always thankful for your gifts of offering. Thank you for using your giving envelopes! The giving envelopes add efficiency to the counting process on Sundays by eliminating the need to look up names and envelope numbers. Thank you for your generosity. If you would like to give on-line, please see the Electronic Giving article above.
THANKS

+     Maria and I want to thank all our friends at Immanuel that have been praying for her recovery from her fall and broken foot before Thanksgiving. It has been a long 3 months of recovery and all your prayers and visits have made a huge difference. Maria wants to especially thank the quilters for the beautiful quilt they made for her. It has kept her warm and wrapped in all your loving arms. She is looking forward to seeing everyone now that she is finally strong enough to come home. With all our love we thank you, Rick and Maria Ruby.

+     Women of the Church, Thank you for your helpful assistance at a time when it was deeply appreciated. - The Family of Herta Schulte

+     Immanuel Staff and Card Ministry, Thank you for your time and dedication that was involved in the process of receiving our beautiful new piano!

+          Dear members of Immanuel Lutheran Church, On the behalf of the Walworth County Alliance for Children, I would like to thank you for your generous donation of blankets, snacks, and juice boxes. Your collection of necessities means that the children who pass through our doors have food and comfort during a very stressful time in their lives. Thank you for your kindness in making a difference in the lives of our children. Gratefully - Bridget Dickinson (Tree House)
